Smithsonite
Kelly Mine, near Magdalena, Socorro County, New Mexico
Cabinet, 13.5 x 10.7 x 7.0 cm
SOLD
A gorgeous rolling, 3-dimensional piece with the classic "robin's-egg blue" color for which the Kelly mine was originally famous as early as the early 1900's. There is ZERO damage to the display face, which has high luster AND consistent color throughout. There is contact around the periphery only, as is normal for these pieces which form in narrow veins. Large Kelly Mine smithsonites like this have recently started going for larger sums due to their color and flash value, as well as that nothing of much note has come out of the mine in decades.
