Cavansite on Stilbite

The Indian deposits of volcanic rocks have produced a lot of cavansite - no question. But few are really GREAT, among that crowd. I have been watching these since they first started coming out in the early 1990s and I have loved them the whole time. I buy great cavansites, whenever I can, and this usually only works out to a few pieces per year. Although average ones are common, there just are not many that I feel go up to the next level. Also, they are hard to photograph - the unique hue and rich color saturation almost never comes through exactly in photos, making them hard to sell online because it is hard to convey that the color on pieces like this is just that extra bit better than the color on the average. This particular specimen features a very 3-dimensional cluster with TOP color and TOP saturation, and the critical element of luster which too many lack. The cluster is very large, running over 6 cm along the ridge of the piece. The matrix is a perfect size and saddle shape to complement the cavansite and accentuate the 3-dimensionality of the cluster. The cluster is complete all around except for only one contacted ball in the lower left of the backside. There is a reason I do not offer many cavansites on this site, and so you can tell how strongly I believe in this particular piece as a result. Joe Budd photos.
