The rare Silver and Gold telluride Sylvanite was discovered here in 1835. Sylvanite is known for its organic habit with great, silvery, metallic luster. The habit of these flat-lying crystals in graphic intergrowths is called "Schrifterz." The effect is both surreal and beautiful (Dali would approve). Dating to the mid-1800s or before, good hand-sized specimens from this type locality are extremely rare. This is an extremely rich and showy specimen.
