Beryl Var. Heliodor
Wolodarsk-Wolynski, Ukraine
Miniature, 5.5 x 1.8 x 1.6 cm
SOLD
This glassy, gemmy, nearly limpid, doubly-terminated, bright yellow crystal of heliodor, displays the classic etching so prominent in beryls from this deposit. Part of the beauty of this heliodor and others are the mostly rectangular etch pits which add so much character to the specimens. For whatever reason, perhaps the dissolution in pocket process after they formed, we see very few heliodors survive in this size range. Most are bigger. For a miniature, this is one of the better examples in its size range I have seen. It has excellent qualities you would want in a heliodor from here of any size, of course; but as a miniature (large miniature size) it is all the more rare to come by for those who do not collect giant crystals, or want a great example from these finds that won't also break the bank..
