Durangite - Twinned (Type Locality)
Thumbnail, 2.7 x 1.5 x 1.4 cm
Barranca Mine, Coneto de Comonfort, Durango, Mexico
A sharp, deep red crystal from the type locality, collected over 40 years ago and recently "uncovered" in an old collection. It is nearly undamaged, and is complete all around. It has a riveting, deep color and translucency to it. I believe it is twinned. So far as we know, this is the largest example of the species. Until this little stash came to light of day, I had no idea these even EXISTED beyond micro-sized. This is a monster!
