Tourmaline Var. Uvite
Gouverneur, St. Lawrence County, New York
Small Cabinet, 9.3 x 7.8 x 7.6 cm
Ex. American Museum of Natural History; Lawrence H. Conklin
SOLD
An old, very interesting historic New York tourmaline specimen featuring lustrous brown uvite crystals to 8 cm, in a cluster. The cluster is complete all around and on all sides, very 3-dimensional. It came from the Columbia University collection to the American Museum, and was exchanged out to Lawrence Conklin in the 1970s. It remaine din his collection until recently. While "brown and ugly" to some, compared to tourmalines from other places, this is a highly significant piece with a style very different, and much more sophisticated as a cluster, than one typically sees from this old locale.
