Topaz (Var: Imperial Topaz)
Dom Bosco (old Hargreaves), Ouro Preto, Minas Gerais, Southeast Region, Brazil
Miniature, 5.0 x 1.6 x 1.0 cm

This crystal is EXCEPTIONAL for the 4 major qualities that matter to an imperial topaz: color, gemminess and internal brightness, clarity and transparency (read-through!), and SHARP termination. As well, it is undamaged and very symmetric. Specimens of this quality are quite rare on the market as most with such a high and obvious gem rough value are simply cut at the source. This is an older specimen from the workings known as the "Vermillion Mine," which are an area apart from most of the modern mines labeled as "ouro prieto," that are tightly controlled now for both specimen and gem rough production. This one weighs 93.5 carats or about 20 grams 5 x 1.6 x 1 cm
