An excellent specimen of lustrous and gemmy sulfur crystals on matrix from an oil well drill core from the Cretaceous-aged Commanche Creek Formation near Ft. Stockton, Pecos Co., Texas. These are nearly impossible to obtain today, as the oil companies cannot afford to core non-productive rock. 30 to 50 years ago, West Texas oil companies occasionally cored non-productive intervals, just to obtain unusual rocks and pretty rocks such as this sulfur and anhydrite, from which they made lamp bases and gifts. rare locality piece, today! 7.7 x 5.8 x 3.5 cm
