Stellerite
Braen Quarry (Braen Stone Industry Quarry; Sam Braen Quarry), Haledon, Passaic Co., New Jersey, USA
Miniature, 4.4 x 3.2 x 2.3 cm
SOLD
Most people don't know how fine the numerous Zeolites and associated species from the various quarries in the Watchung Mountains actually are. The Braen Quarry was for many years seldom collected locality, but recently some daring individuals made their way into the quarry to collect some very attractive Stilbite and Stellerite specimens. The majority of Stellerite found around the world is opaque, and rarely gemmy, let alone gem quality. This particular piece features outstanding, lustrous, gemmy, colorless, "jelly"-like, sphere-shaped radiating aggregates of Stellerite measuring up to 7 mm on basalt. This is a great small miniature size specimen of an uncommon Zeolite. This specimen is from a fairly recent find in this historic quarry. Ex. Richard Kosnar Collection.
