Bull Moose Mine, near Custer, Custer Co., South Dakota, USA
Miniature, 4.5 x 4.2 x 2.1 cm
This remarkable large crystal is the best single hureaulite have personally seen from this mine, and I did handle almost every piece in the chapter on this locality illustrated in John Barlow's collection book. This one blows away anything I have had in that previous collection. The piece hosts a large, well-displayed crystal towering over the contrasting matrix - not just a large hureaulite, then, but an extremely aesthetic crystal overall. It is repaired, cleanly, to the matrix in a lock-fit repair line. The locality is long done in terms of producing its wonderful trove of world-class phosphates.
