Botryoidal Fluorite "Purple Turtle"
new Mine, near De'An, Wushan, Jiangxi Province, China
Miniature, 4.5 x 4.4 x 3.6 cm
SOLD
At the show, a few dozen of these round purple objects turned up on the market, quickly selling to me and others as we realized they are probably the world's largest and best examples of botryoidal growth in fluorite. Also, they are prime carving material for lapidary, with a beautiful translucence and purple hue throughout! This was the smallest I had seen, in good condition - most are large, at 5 inches and up in size, too big for most folks anyhow. This is perfect size for any collection of fluorite of Chinese minerals, for those who don't need doorstop-size! So, I actually value the little one pretty highly, given the rest are either big and chunky or too banged up. This is a new locality, and a mine name is not known at this time (well, not known to me, anyhow)
