Marcasite, Quartz
Joplin Field, Tri-State District, Jasper Co., Missouri, USA
Cabinet, 12.7 x 8.0 x 4.6 cm
SOLD
A very fine and unusual, mounded, cabinet specimen from the famed Joplin Field of Missouri. Sparkling, metallic marcasite crystals are festooned on the glassy quartz crystals that cover the matrix of silicified limestone and sphalerite. One side has an unusual, 2.7 x1.7 cm, sharply rectangular, sphalerite-cored area surrounded by quartz crystals. This area looks to be a cast after a dissolved galena crystal. This complete-all-around piece is essentially pristine. Old-time and strange material from this historic district. Ex. E.R. Chadbourn, Phil Scalisi and George Feist Collections, dating back to the 1950s or before.
