Miniature, 3.9 x 0.9 x 0.7 cm
Minas Gerais, Southeast Region, Brazil
Every now and then, a handful of these "blue stripe" kyanite crystals trickles out of Brazil, usually with the same dealer, and we always like to pick out a few good ones - because they are so distinctive. For one thing, they are translucent, unlike most kyanites - and they are not embedded in quartz. But what is best is the strange blue stripe running right through the middle, a really unusual example of crystal color zoning. The crystal is terminated on one end.
