Small Cabinet, 5.9 x 4.1 x 3.0 cm
Bellsgrove Mine (Bellsgrove Opencut), Strontian, North West Highlands (Argyllshire), Scotland, UK
A classic, old-time specimen of lustrous, pearlescent harmotome crystals to 1.4 cm on mounded matrix from the Bellsgrove Mine at Strontian, Scotland. Harmotome is a rare zeolite group mineral and many of the crystals are cyclic twins, including the largest, prominently placed large crystal. A fine, showy piece. New ones came out recently in the late 1990s, but the older ones, to my mind, are better. Ex. Jamie Bird Collection, a California collector from the 1960s-1980s.
