WOW! I think the pictures convey it all here....what an unusual specimen! It should be noted that individual spinel twinned crystals of size in gold are extremely rare, particularly so from California, and this is a 5 cm-long crystal! The flattened octos all grow perpendicular on one axis, and not the other, giving this piece a striking effect as of vertebrae. 5 x 1.1 x 0.1 cm
