Pyromorphite
Roughton Gill, Cumberland, England
Cabinet, 10.5 x 4.8 x 4.6 cm
Ex. Dr. Gary Hansen
SOLD
Cabinet, 9 x 9 x 2.5 cm This is not just a CABINET-sized killer for the locality, but its a darned good pyro by ANY worldwide standards as well, because of the natural wet luster and rich green color. Of course, the fact that is a rare large plate of a 120-plus-year-old classic from the U.K. doesn't hurt, either! It is an elegantly curved plate of solid pyromorphite, basically complete all around and even with (lesser quality) crystals on backside! Despite its size and age, it is nearly pristine! It has a very wet-looking luster and color as conveyed in the photos. Like I said, a killer in every sense! I admittedly did not get this in the current purchase from Hansen himself. Hansen sold about 200 pieces in 1999, through Wayne Thompson. In that sale he let go of only a few duplicate pyros (he had another, smaller example of this material as shown above and so he sold this one at the time), though did not let the suite as a whole get creamed by any stretch. It was immediately purchased from Wayne Thompson by Dr. Ed David for the shown price of $11, 000 in 1999. I recently obtained it from Ed in trade, when I learned that I might purchase the majority of Hansen's collection as well. I amortized my trade and I really think that offering it at the same price now is a relative bargain, all things considered.
