Dravite
Soklich Open Cut, Yinnietharra Station, Pilbara Region, Western Australia, Australia
Miniature, 4.5 x 4.4 x 4.2 cm

Dravite tourmalines may not be the most beautiful on earth, with their dark coffee color and usual lack of transparency (particularly as they get larger), but they are one of the more uncommon tourmaline varietals. And this is a BIG one, an old-timer from Australia. It has fine sharp faces and good luster. On the underside, it is intergrown with the matrix rock, but complete with faces. This whopper weighs 142 grams. From the collection of noted California collector Charles Hansen.
