For a Russian dioptase, this is an absolutely fabulous specimen; with the color and luster of most Tsumeb dioptases! I always thought it odd that these dioptases, from the TYPE LOCALITY no less, are always about 25% the cost of a comparable Tsumeb piece (or less). It boggles the mind. But there it is. The glamour of Tsumeb and the fact that it is done and won't be mined again for the mineral, really adds to the locality premium there. The gemmy crystals measure up to one centimeter, and richly cover the surface of a 3-dimensional matrix with pretty form, creating a wonderful display face. There is some bruising on the lower left, but this is all in context given the size and showiness of the specimen; and with all the flash and color, the bruising doesn't detract much visually. This is, to my mind, one of the largest and showiest dioptase specimens, with decent crystals. 11.5 x 5.5 x 5 cm
