Diopside
Orford Nickel mine, St-Denis-de-Brompton, Le Val-Saint-Francois RCM, Estrie, Quebec, Canada
Cabinet, 11.5 x 2.6 x 1.3 cm
SOLD
This diopside is one of the largest and best formed crystals from this deposit that I have ever seen. Its yellow-green color and bright glassy luster along with an excellent termination make this specimen very desirable. This piece exhibits so much luster that it appears to be translucent (is not, though, but a little bit). BETTER In PERSON! Complete all around save for some minor contact on the lower edges. It was the first nickel mine in Canada, back in the late 1870's, but never produced large quantity of nickel. You can find reference in the Min. Record, vol. 25, n. 5 1994 for this locality. Today, some small diopside can still be found, and also nice needle-like millerite on/with deep green 1-2 mm grossulars. 11.5 x 2.6 x 1.3 cm
