Cassiterite
Viloco Mine (Araca mine), Loayza Province, La Paz Department, Bolivia
Cabinet, 15.3 x 11.0 x 9.2 cm

Bolivia has probably produced more tin than any other country in the world. The great tin mines at Viloco (sometimes called Araca) have produced some of the most magnificent Cassiterite specimens extant. This particular specimen consists of dozens of large, fine, sharp, highly lustrous, gemmy brown color, cyclic twinned crystals measuring up to 3.0 cm forming a tremendous crystallized "mound." This is a very attractive piece and one of the largest specimens I've seen in recent years. Despite its size, there are few spots of damage on this specimen, and there is one "split" in the specimen where it seems to have seperated due to tectonic activity, but it is still an amazingly large piece for this great old classic locality. This classic material from Viloco is simply not seen for sale in today's market. 15.3 x 11.0 x 9.2cm
