Calcite (Var: Manganoan Calcite), Kutnohorite
Wessels Mine (Wessel's Mine), Hotazel, Kalahari manganese fields, Northern Cape Province, South Africa
Miniature, 3.3 x 2.8 x 1.8 cm
Fascinating and very attractive spheres of pink Manganoan Calcite that grew as a crust on Kutnohorite crystals. The Manganoan Calcite has a lovely drusy, sparkly, nice color, and brilliant fluorescence. The largest of the spheres is 2.7 cm across. The Kutnohorite below is completely intact, which is not always the case. A very unusual, and quite striking, specimen. Ex. Charlie Key.
