Hunan Province, China
Large Cabinet, 21.8 x 15.2 x 7.9 cm
Sorry for the vague locality - but we DO know this big and amazing specimen of calcite is from China. At any rate, as you can see, this is quite a spectacular specimen. The whopper crystals are translucent and honey-colored. They have this incredible surface made up of hundreds of small sub-faces. Both crystals are twinned - the larger one, multiply-terminated at one end with a dozen different peaks. Only one of the four terminations is contacted. On the back side of the crystals, you can see sharp black internal phantoms (earlier calcite crystals that were coated with a dark mineral before being engulfed by later growth) .
