JMIX07-150 - Fluorite - $300 SOLD Yaogangxian Mine, Chenzhou, Hunan Province, China miniature, 5 x 4.5 x 3.5 cm
Two very gemmy, intergrown crystals of fluorite, with really interesting geometry due to the modifications that occurred as they grew together. There are a couple of minor dings, nothing detracting though. These crystals are a LOT more transparent and pretty in person – unusually glassy and brilliant!
JMIX07-152 - Ettringite (matrix!) - $300 N’Chwaning Mine, Northern Cape Province, Republic of South Africa miniature, 3 x 3 x 1.6 cm
Well-crystallized ettringites are uncommon in the first place, but this specimen is notable for the fact that it is a MATRIX specimen (so many are standalone crystals). It features a sharp, bright yellow, complete and terminated crystal measuring one centimeter in each direction, perched atop the matrix.
JMIX07-153 - Fluorite, Scheelite, and Quartz - $325 SOLD Yaogangxian Mine, Chenzhou, Hunan Province, China miniature, 5.5 x 3 x 2.5 cm
A very unusual and wonderfully aesthetic combo specimen that features gem fluorites in association with a cluster of razor-sharp scheelites – with little snowy calcite rhombs and a euhedral quartz crystal forming the backdrop! Small cleave, tiny an dhard to see, on one bottom corner of the fluorite only. Comes with a custom-cut lucite stand.
JMIX07-154 - Selenite Twins (ex. Marty Zinn Coll.) - $350 Pila, Poland small cabinet, 7.5 x 7 x 6 cm
This is a floater cluster of super-gemmy twinned crystals of selenite, from Poland, ex. Marty Zinn. These fine crystals are far more transparent in person, and have a light golden color. Despite the softness of this mineral, this specimen is in fabulous condition – and is REALLY striking and aesthetic.
JMIX07-155 - Fluorite Gems - $750 SOLD Yaogangxian Mine, Chenzhou, Hunan Province, China small cabinet, 6.5 x 3.5 x 3 cm
Even if you are jaded about Chinese fluorites because of the sheer quantity of them, they are extremely uncommon in this quality, and should capture anyone’s attention! They are just incredible to look at – intensely gemmy interiors with dark purple outlines, set amongst little rosettes of light green muscovite. Crystals to 1.3 cm along the edge. Stunning quality!
JMIX07-156 - Diopside - $250 SOLD Khugiani, Nangarhar Province, Afghanistan small cabinet, 6.5 x 4.5 x 2 cm
A plate of GEMMY diopside crystals to 2 cm, some of them in rows with staggered terminations, from Afghanistan. These can sometimes be very dark green and not all that transparent, but these are really glassy!
JMIX07-158 - Fluorite with Sphalerite - $250 Rosiclare Level, Bahama Pod, Denton Mine, Ozark-Mahoning Company, Harris Creek District, Illinois small cabinet, 7.5 x 5 x 5 cm
A cluster of intergrown crystals of purple fluorite from Illinois, with little gemmy sphalerites around the edges. The fluorites measure to 2.6 cm along the edges. They are quite transparent. Just a couple of micro-dings, very hard to see.
JMIX07-159 - Spessartine Garnet - $375 SOLD Navegador, Minas Gerais, Brazil miniature, 4.5 x 3.5 x 2 cm
A large floater crystal of spessartine from Brazil. We backlit it (strongly) to emphasize not only the super gemminess through and through, but also the amazing architecturally stepped surfaces so distinctive of this find. This specimen is complete and undamaged, with the incredible terraces all the way around.
JMIX07-160 - Mimetite on Smithsonite - $900 Tsumeb, Namibia miniature, 4 x 2.1 x 1.3 cm
For the collector of rare Tsumeb association pieces, here is a killer! Gemmy crystals of mimetite to just over one centimeter, in a shallow pocket lined with rhombs of pink smithsonite! Ex. Ulrich Bahmann Collection.
JMIX07-162 - Fluorite with Barite - $1800 Berbes, Asturias, Spain cabinet, 15.5 x 10 x 7.5 cm
A cabinet-sized matrix, a FLOATER, covered all the way around with gemmy cubes of fluorite with deep purple phantoms inside. An area of bladed Barite adds a beautiful accent. You can actually display this specimen any number of ways, because the crystals are literally all over it, and there are no contacts or damage!
JMIX07-163 - Orpiment - $1250 SOLD Cut 62, Twin Creeks Mine, Humboldt County, Nevada small cabinet, 7 x 7 x 5 cm
A large specimen with big, fat crystals of orpiment, in fans that measure up to over 3.5 cm across. Honey-orange color and fine, flashy luster! There are a few light-colored bruises on edges, as you see, but they do not materially detract much given the overall size and 3-dimensionality on display. This is certainly one of the better ones I have seen for sale in a good while. Even back when they came out, it would be expensive
JMIX07-164 - Smithsonite - $350 SOLD 79 Mine, Gila County, Arizona small cabinet, 8.3 x 6 x 2.3 cm
A good-sized place of the prized APPLE-GREEN smithsonite from the classic 79 Mine locality. This is actually from finds not long back where a couple of miners went back into the old works and pulled out a trickle of nice pieces not seen in some years otherwise.
JMIX07-165 - Smithsonite - $600 Kelly Mine, nr. Magdalena, Socorro County, New Mexico small cabinet, 6 x 4.7 x 3.5 cm
Kelly Mine smithsonite has gone from being readily available to being depressingly hard to find. This specimen has the fine robins-egg blue color and surface shimmer that makes these specimens so distinctive and sought-after.
JMIX07-166 - Charlesite with Ettringite - $250 N’Chwaning II Mine, Kalahari Manganese Fields, Northern Cape Province, South Africa miniature, 4 x 3 x 1.7 cm
Charlesite is a close relative of ettringite – and this specimen (as the Scott Williams label describes) appears to consist of (white) charlesite crystals with an outer layer of bright yellow ettringite. The crystals measure to one centimeter. You would guess the type locality for charlesite to be somewhere in the Kalahari Manganese Fields, but strangely, it is New Jersey; it wasn’t described until 1983. These crystals are nicely isolated on the dark contrasting matrix. Ex Collection of Scott Williams, also with another dealer label (priced $250).
JMIX07-167 - Cobaltoan Calcite - $375 Arhbar Mine, Arhbar, Morocco small cabinet, 7.5 x 6 x 4 cm
The size of these cobaltoan calcite crystals is just remarkable compared to the average specimen you see – these sharp scalenohedrons rise to 1.3 cm above the matrix! It is nearly pristine, with just a few vrey , very minor dings here or there. Pretty pink blush color with silky micro-stepped faces. A very rich specimen with unusually pastel color !
