RUSS-06 - Manganoan Calcite on Sphalerite - $450 SOLD
2nd Sovietskiy Mine, Dalnegorsk, Primorskiy Kray, Russia
small cabinet, 6 x 5.5 x 3 cm

Just a stunning Dalnegorsk combo specimen. The calcites not only have wonderfully sharp poker-chip form, but a lovely pastel pink color from manganese. They sit on a beautifully contrasting matrix of dark crystallized sphalerite. The calcites are actually like little sandwiches, transparent in the middle and milky-translucent on the faces. Fluorescent orange.

RUSS-08 - Citrine Quartz - $950
Olkhovka, Polar Urals, Russia
cabinet, 10.5 x 8.5 x 5 cm

Citrine is VERY rare from Russia. We buy all the good specimens we can find, which amounts to only a handful a year, even though we had early access to most of the sources when they came out a few years back. This is a large, spectacular specimen; the crystals are gemmy as can be, with the beautiful and distinctive acid-yellow color peculiar to the best Russian citrines. Small tip dings to the back of the terminations do not visibly detract fomr the display face, or quality overall, of the specimen. Comes with custom-made acrylic base.

RUSS-21 - Citrine with Chlorite Inclusions - $395 SOLD
Olkhovka, Polar Urals, Russia
cabinet, 10.8 x 5.5 x 4.5 cm

Citrine is VERY rare from Russia. We buy all the good specimens we can find, which amounts to only a handful a year, even though we have early access to most of the sources. This one does not have the intense acid-yellow color that some Russian ones do, but a lighter amber hue. The large, intergrown crystals here are in fine condition and complete all around. You can see a patch of green inside from inclusions of chlorite.

RUSS-09 - Pyrrhotite - $1250 SOLD
Nikolaevsky Mine, Dalnegorsk, Primorskiy Kray, Russia
small cabinet, 8.2 x 6 x 6 cm

A fantastic 4-cm "ribbon" of pyrrhotite, standing fully exposed on a field of quartz. This super-sharp caterpillar-like composite of hexagonal crystals has a terrific brassy luster to it. DRAMATIC! Comes with custom-made acrylic base.

RUSS-10 - Rhodochrosite - $300
Djayrem, Kazakhstan
cabinet, 8 x 7 x 4 cm

A rare example of Russian (well ex-Russian Republic , anyhow) rhodochrosite! This specimen is about 80% rhodochrosite – it goes straight through to the bottom. A knob of it has been polished to bring out the beautiful color; it shows concentric deposition rings, as you can see in the pics. The deep color is noticeably different from the much more common stalactitic material from Argentina. Rare material. I haven't seen much around since it came out in the early 1990s

RUSS-11 - Axinite - $250
Bor Pit, Dalnegorsk, Primorskiy Kray, Russia
miniature, 4.1 x 4 x 3.8 cm

Mined in 2005, this sharp axinite specimen features two large crystals (to 3 cm) that rise elegantly in back of a cluster of smaller crystals. Good axinite specimens are rare for this locality, and this nice-sized full miniature is particularly aesthetic as an example.

RUSS-12 - Fluorite and Quartz - $650
Nikolaevskiy Mine, Dalnegorsk, Primorskiy Kray, Russia
cabinet, 10 x 9 x 4.5 cm

While fluorites of this style from Dalnegorsk often appear with quartz, it is very unusual for larger, isolated quartz crystals to be intimately intergrown with the fluorites, as here. In fact, you even have quartz crystals spiking right through the fluorites! The fluorites are modified cubes with clear windows framed by frosty bevels; they measure to 3 cm.

RUSS-14 - Apophyllite on Calcite - $450
Second Sovietskiy Mine, Dalnegorsk, Primorskiy Kray, Russia
cabinet, 10.5 x 7.5 x 4.5 cm

There are 3 specimens here from this unique find in 2005 at the 2nd Sovietskiy Mine in Dalnegorsk. What you have is poker-chip calcites (to 4 cm) which are covered with small, sparkling crystals of apophyllite. The apophyllites also are lighting up the surrounding matrix, with a dove-grey color coming through from the underlying (unidentified) mineral, which creates a wonderful contrast with the calcites. SPARKLING AND BEAUTIFUL in person!

RUSS-13 - Apophyllite on Calcite - $125 SOLD
Second Sovietskiy Mine, Dalnegorsk, Primorskiy Kray, Russia
small cabinet, 8.5 x 6.5 x 3 cm

RUSS-16 - Barite with Orpiment - $1800
El' Brusskiy (Elbrusskiy) Mine, Northern Caucasus Region, Russia
small cabinet, 9 x 5 x 2 cm

You are probably familiar with the bright orange-red plates of orpiment from this locality (there is one in this update). But you probably have not seen specimens from this tiny find, a pocket of GEM barite in association with the orpiment! Not many specimens at all came out, and over 90% of them were damaged, partial crystals. This is by far the largest crystal we have seen from the find (mid-2005), and incredibly gemmy as well! It is complete and TERMINATED, too – there were only a handful that were. The termination is rough, yes, but it is natural (contacted - not damaged or chipped). The color is a BEAUTIFUL gemmy citrine-amber hue. The barite itself measures 6 cm, over 2 inches. For this find, this is a truly significant specimen!

RUSS-18 - Orpiment - $450 SOLD
El' Brusskiy (Elbrusskiy) Mine, Northern Caucasus Region, Russia
small cabinet, 6.5 x 5.3 x 1.7 cm

Brushy clusters of INTENSELY bright orange-red orpiment. The orpiments from here are instantly identifiable for their unique form and incredible color. Highly desirable and, today, harder to obtain.

RUSS-17 - Calcite - $345
Sarbay Mine, Rudniy, Kazakhstan
cabinet, 12 x 8 x 5.5 cm

In person, these compound crystals of calcite are actually a pretty, light golden color, with subtle striations on their faces. The largest measures 6 cm top to bottom. They sit side-by-side on a matrix covered with smaller, lighter-colored calcites. An entirely different form from the familiar "Rudniy calcites" from the nearby Saranovskiy Mine at this locality!

RUSS-19 - Sulfur - $850
Vodinskoye, Samara Oblast, Russia
miniature, 3.8 x 3 x 2.5 cm

Good sulfurs from Russia are extremely hard to get these days – much harder to get, in fact, that old Italian ones. Though we look, we find maybe 3 or 4 a year that are good. Here is a wonderfully transparent, architectural crystal, complete all around! It has a mesmerizing geometry to it, and is complete, bright yellow...would be a killer single crystal even from Italy where many came. From Russia, its a real surprise and of more significance for the locality

RUSS-20 - Sulfur - $275 SOLD
Vodinskoye, Samara Oblast, Russia
miniature, 3.5 x 3 x 2 cm

Good sulfurs from Russia are extremely hard to get these days – much harder to get, in fact, that old Italian ones. Though we look, we find maybe 3 or 4 a year that are good. What you have here is a crystal so fine it looks like a bright JEWEL perched on a field of dark bitumin-coated smaller crystals. The crystal measures 1.3 cm So rare in this quality and condition . . .
