03edd37a - Franklinite in Willemite, Zincite, and Calcite - $ 5000 SOLD Sterling Hill Mine, Ogdensberg, New Jersey, USA cabinet, 9 x 9 x 8 cm ex. Dr. Edward David
An exceptionally dramatic piece with a stark 4 cm franklinite just sitting nicely in matrix of zincite, willemite, and calcite. The crystal is remarkably free of cracking, which happens often in larger crystals; and also free of shoe polish and glue fill in said cracks - a more frequent occurence than we specimen collectors like to admit. But, in the old days, it was almost a tradition to fake and build up broken franklinite crystals in matrix! Luckily, this one survived and was never played with. It probably dates to older workings in the late 1800s to early 1900s, and is not recently found.
K298A - Manganosite with Zincite, Jacobsite - $ 1500 SOLD Franklin Mine, Franklin, New Jersey, USA miniature, 3.7 x 2.9 x 2.4 cm ex. Charlie Key
A relatively large, sharp, and (i am told by those who know more than I ) pretty good crystal of this rarity! Cahrlie , a New Jersey native and specialist, was very impressed by these crystals and kept them around for at least the last 30 years, after getting them in an old collection. This one is particularly 3-dimensional and impressive. Some might say impressively ugly, but they are prettier than most such crystals due to the accenting zincite color. The manganosite under a thin jacobsite coating is unaltered/unoxidized and green.
K298B - Manganosite with Zincite, Jacobsite - $ 250 SOLD Franklin Mine, Franklin, New Jersey, USA thumbnail, 3.0 x 2.0 x 1.5 cm ex. Charlie Key
A relatively large, sharp, and (i am told by those who know more than I ) pretty good crystal of this rarity! Cahrlie , a New Jersey native and specialist, was very impressed by these crystals and kept them around for at least the last 30 years, after getting them in an old collection. This one is cleaved in back but shows nice upper faces and is a significant, fine representative of the species from this locality. Some might say impressively ugly, but they are prettier than most such crystals due to the accenting zincite color.

MD-118731 - Zincite - - Archived Franklin Mine, Franklin, Franklin Mining District, Sussex Co., New Jersey, USA small cabinet, 5.8 x 3.1 x 2 cm.
5.8 x 3.1 x 2 cm. Excellent representative specimen of rich embedded partial crystals of Zincite amidst the classic Franklin combination of Calcite, Franklinite, and Willemite. The Zincite is a deep rich rust-red color, and the luster on the crystal faces (yes, there are actually some well-developed faces on the upper surface!) is excellent. As you would expect, the fluorescence of the piece is superb.
MD-119643 - Zincite, Calcite, Tephroite - - Archived Franklin Mine, Franklin, Franklin Mining District, Sussex Co., New Jersey, USA small cabinet, 9.4 x 7.4 x 3.5 cm.
9.4 x 7.4 x 3.5 cm. An OUTSTANDING and showy combination specimen from the famous Franklin Mine of RARE, discrete tephroite crystals to 5 mm, foliated, rust-red zincite and blocky calcite. Super orange fluorescence on the calcite. Ex. George Elling Collection.
MD-131911 - Zincite - - Archived Sterling Mine, Sterling Hill, Ogdensburg, Franklin Mining District, Sussex Co., New Jersey, USA small cabinet, 8.7 x 4.5 x 3.8 cm.
8.7 x 4.5 x 3.8 cm. A massive chunk of over 280 grams of zincite, classic old material from this mine. This is not crystallized, but it IS a particularly rich cleavage mass, with lots of beautiful red reflections off the rich zincite inside Ex. Charlie Key Collection.
MD-133451 - Zincite - - Archived Sterling Hill, Ogdensburg, Franklin Mining District, Sussex Co., New Jersey, USA thumbnail, 3.1 x 1.9 x 1.5 cm.
3.1 x 1.9 x 1.5 cm. A SUPERB, GEMMY, 1.6 cm, cherry-red zincite crystal aesthetically set on matrix of calcite, willemite and franklinite from Sterling Hill. The zincite crystal is nicely terminated and has a bit of embedded calcite. CLASSIC and VERY DESIRABLE material from this famed locality. The calcite and willemite are beautifully fluorescent, as you would expect. Ex. George Ellling Collection.
MD-148328 - Zincite, Calcite, Willemite - - Archived Sterling Mine, Sterling Hill, Ogdensburg, Franklin Mining District, Sussex Co., New Jersey, USA small cabinet, 5.5 x 4.3 x 2.2 cm.
5.5 x 4.3 x 2.2 cm. Bright, blood-red, partially euhedral zincite crystals on a matrix of calcite and willemite from the famous Sterling Hill Mine of New Jersey. A showy, highly representative and desirable combination specimen from this famous locality, probalby dating to the early to mid 1900s. Excellent fluorescence on the calcite (pink) and willemite (green). From the noted Franklin collection of George Elling.
MD-169901 - Zincite - - Archived Sterling Mine, Sterling Hill, Ogdensburg, Franklin Mining District, Sussex Co., New Jersey, USA thumbnail, 2.1 x 1.3 x 0.7 cm.
2.1 x 1.3 x 0.7 cm. For its size, this is one of the finest zincite specimens I have encountered. The bright, translucent, cherry red crystal, 2.0 cm in length, is aesthetically perched on matrix. It has a repair midways, but it’s hard to see. This rare specimen is obviously an old timer as very little has come from Franklin since the 1940s.
MD-201342 - Zincite, Willemite, Franklinite - - Archived Sterling Mine, Sterling Hill, Ogdensburg, Franklin Mining District, Sussex Co., New Jersey, USA small cabinet, 6.2 x 4 x 3.2 cm.
6.2 x 4 x 3.2 cm. A classic combination piece of beautiful deep red crystalline Zincite (mostly massive) on a matrix of the classic Franklin suite, including highly fluorescent Willemite and franklinite. The zincite crystals are embedded in the mass, and you can see some crystal faces in cleavage sections. Ex. Charlie Key.
MD-21552 - Zincite - - Archived Sterling Mine, Sterling Hill, Ogdensburg, Franklin Mining District, Sussex Co., New Jersey, USA thumbnail, 1.4 cm
A superb GEMMY, CHERRY-RED crystal of zincite that is 1.4 cm long and ends in an embedded termination. This is a very showy specimen, both fine because it has the good crystal and colorful because of the plate of massive zincite beneath it. 3 x 2.5 x 0.6 cm
MD-21553 - Zincite - - Archived Franklin Mine, Franklin, Franklin Mining District, Sussex Co., New Jersey, USA thumbnail, 2.5 x 2 x 1.5 cm
