Wulfenite from Tsumeb Mine (Tsumcorp Mine), Tsumeb, Otjikoto (Oshikoto) Region, Namibia [db_pics/mdpics/MD-23907a.jpg]

Super wulfenite crystals for the locality, with highly desirable butterscotch coloring! The crystals are to 1.2 cm and are in great shape, except for a tiny little blemish on the rear of the top termination. Note price on old label from the 1970s…Tsumeb wulfs always are valued at a premium but even in the heyday they thought this a super miniature. 4.2 x 4.1 x 3.2 cm

Wulfenite from Erupción Mine (Ahumada Mine; Erupción-Ahumada Mine), Los Lamentos Mts (Sierra de Los Lamentos), Mun. de Ahumada, Chihuahua, Mexico [db_pics/mdpics/MD-239859a.jpg]

5.4 x 4.1 x 0.3 cm. This unusual tabular crystal is both huge for the locality, and historic. It came to me in an old collection. It is translucent and colorful, if not particularly lustrous. It is, even, nearly pristine - which is surprising given the size. It comes with an old Filer’s label, we think from the 1960s or early 1970s.

2.4 x 2.2 x 0.8 cm. A beautiful wulfenite from the Red Cloud Mine. This older, 1960s-era crystal is dramatic in its unusual color and exceptional lustre. The two crystals are a rich, brick-red and have reddish-orange cores. Classic, Red Cloud, sharp beveled edges are the standard here. This specimen is virtually pristine. Ex. John Ydren Collection.

4.5 x 3.2 x 3.0 cm. A superbly placed, 1.3 cm, gemmy and lustrous, reddish-orange wulfenite crystal with sharp, beveled edges is aesthetically set on a rectangular gossan crust with a drusy quartz vein on the bottom. The one side and the end are nicely sprinkled with smaller wulfenites on this showy and excellent specimen from the Red Cloud Mine. The large crystal is pristine and all of the crystals have distinctive beveled edges. This piece is from the "last hurrah" of this renowned mine, the 2003 Red Gem Pocket.

3.4 x 3.2 x 1.8 cm. A classic, old-time specimen of very colorful green-blue Chrysocolla with a rich waxy luster. This is, in fact, a double pseudomorph, having replaced three rosettes of Malachite that were themselves pseudomorphs after Azurite blades, all sitting on a gossan matrix likely rich in Goethite. The largest of the now-Chrysocolla rosettes is 1.4 cm across. Adding even more mineralogical interest, and value, are the gemmy golden microcrystals of bipyramidal Wulfenite sitting on the matrix just below the Chrysocolla. This is a fine old-time piece from the Whim Creek Copper Mine of Western Australia. Ex. Charlie Key stock.

6.0 x 4.5 x 3.5 cm. A 1.2 cm, gemmy and lustrous, reddish-orange wulfenite crystal is perched on vuggy, drusy quartz matrix on this fine specimen from the last "hurrah" of the Red Cloud Mine. The wulfenites have classic, sharp beveled edges. The smaller wulfenites are a nice accent to this fine piece.

7.0 x 5.8 x 4.5 cm. A classic wulfenite specimen from the Erupcion Mine and the Don Boydston Collection. Don was a prominent LA area collector in the 1960s-1970s. His "lost" collection surfaced around 2001. Highly lustrous, blocky, "sandwich style" wulfenite crystals to 1.2 cm are aesthetically and richly scattered on both side of the knob of banded, white calcite. This is a highly representative specimen of this classic style from the 1960s.

7.0 x 6.6 x 6.4 cm. From the classic San Francisco mine in Mexico, this is a beautiful specimen of Wulfenite which hosts several sharp, lustrous, translucent/gemmy, butterscotch color tabular crystals on gossan matrix. The "main" crystal at the top of the piece measures 1.7 cm on edge. The Wulfenite crystals are associated with small yellow botryoidal Mimetite aggregates as well. Ex. Brian Kosnar Collection.

8.5 x 5.8 x 3.4 cm. An excellent, historic old-timer from the Phonenixville District, Pennsylvania. The sculptural and hefty gossan matrix has multiple vugs lined with lustrous, glassy, butterscotch-colored wulfenite prisms to 7 mm associated with pastel-green mimetite botryoids. The Phoenixville mines reached their highest production in the 1850s and the district was extinct by 1870. Specimens of this richness and quality are uncommon. Ex. 6.4 x 5.0 x 2.9 cm. Lustrous, butterscotch-colored wulfenite crystals to 5 mm richly fill two vugs on the gossan matrix on this old-time piece from the Mammoth-St. Anthony Mine at Tiger. Scattered about and best seen with a hand lens are tiny, colorless hairs to about 1 mm of the rare lead, arsenic halide ecdemite. Ex. Edna Doughty and Richard Hauck Collections.

Botryoidal duftite coats olive-green wulfenite blades, which in turn, are preferentially coated with lustrous calcite rhombs. A showy and excellent specimen, seldom available in this quality and combination from the John Ydren Collection.

The large crystal is 1.8 x 1.7 cm and all of the crystals have distinctive beveled edges. The three, primary crystals are pristine. This excellent piece dates to the 1960s finds.

8.7 x 6.5 x 2.0 cm. Highly lustrous, caramel-colored, tabular wulfenite crystals to 1.0 cm are aesthetically scattered on the limestone matrix plate covered with sparkly, drusy calcite on this fine specimen from the Erupcion Mine at Los Lamentos. This remains a highly representative example of the species and locale. Ex. Consie Prince Collection.
