4.1 x 3.9 x 1.8 cm. A 1.2 cm, gemmy and lustrous, reddish-orange wulfenite crystal with sharp, beveled edges is aesthetically set on a gossan crust covered with tiny, sparkly calcite crystals on this showy and excellent specimen from the 2003 Red Gem Pocket, in the Red Cloud Mine. The smaller sidecar crystal is a very nice accent.
15.0 x 13.0 x 4.2 cm. A striking, large cabinet plate festooned with lustrous, carmel-colored wulfenite crystals to 1.0 cm from Los Lamentos, Mexico. This sculptural piece is on the highly desireable snow-white matrix. These were found mostly in the 1950s and 1960s, and good large specimens are hard to come by now.
7.6 x 5.3 x 2.8 cm. Beautiful, intensely colored crystals to 1.7 cm make this specimen a visually impressive piece, with lots of color. The lustre is excellent, naturally wet and waxy-looking. This piece is an older specimen, likely from the 1960s or 1970s.
3.25 x 3.0 x 2.3 cm. A superb, sharp, highly lustrous wulfenite of this style perched on white contrasting matrix. These are from the late 1960s and early 1970s. Ex. Laura and Stevia Thompson Collection.
8.5 x 7.4 x 2.8 cm. Hilltop Mine wulfenite is a relic of the early 1900s turn-of-century Wild West years. Most specimens came out in the 1890s to WWI era. These remote mountains were so difficult at the time, that ore was brought out on the back of burros to get to market. Today, we seldom see specimens of wulfenite from this classic locality, but they do turn up in old collections from time to time. This piece has unusually stop-sign-like crystals to 1.2 cm, with the classic butterscotch color.
4.3 x 4.1 x 2.7 cm. This is a very sharp miniature, from the noted collection of European dealer Helmut Bruckner. It has incredible waxy, wet-looking front faces and rich orangey color saturation. The back is not lustrous, to be blunt. It is a weird chocolate color and has no lustre back. The combination of color and lustre is really dramatic, and this is a miniature that stands out from the many other habits and styles this mine produced over the years.
7.1 x 6.8 x 2.3 cm. A distinctive, classic, two-sided specimen from the Erupcion (Ahumada) Mine at Los Lamentos, Mexico. Gemmy, thin, tabular, butterscotch-colored wulfenite crystals richly cover one side of the sturdy gossan crust. The other side is festooned with 3-dimensional mounds of highly lustrous clusters of tapered rust-brown to dark brown vanadinite variety endlichite crystals. Seldom do you see a Los Lamentos piece with such a rich variation of the two species. Ex. Mullane Collection. Older material.
4.5 x 2.8 x 2.6 cm. Three gemmy and lustrous, reddish-orange wulfenite crystals to 1.1 cm with sharp, beveled edges are aesthetically set on a mounded gossan crust covered with tiny, sparkly calcite crystals on this fine specimen from the Red Cloud Mine. The "L" shaped crystal is striking and the tiny wulfenites scattered about are a very nice accent. This excellent piece is from the last find at this renowned mine, the 2003 Red Gem Pocket.
8.4 x 6.9 x 4.4 cm. A rare, old-time specimen from the famous but small mine here, and the Mullane Collection. Striking, lustrous, rust-red, bi-pyramidal wulfenite crystals to 7 mm richly and aesthetically cover both sides of the sturdy, 3-dimensional, vuggy goethite matrix. The backside features colorless calcite (?) crystals. This excellent piece is either from 1960s or close to it.
21.0 x 10.8 x 6.4 cm. Wulfenites from the Hilltop Mine of Arizona are highly desirable, but have never been common. Large cabinet specimens, such as this, are especially rare. Translucent, moderately lustrous, butterscotch-colored, wulfenite crystals to 1.0 cm are richly scattered on the quartz-rich matrix. The wulfenites have sharp, beveled edges. Classic, old-time material from the Mullane Collection. Most specimens came out in the 1890s to World War I era with only a trickle after. This is certainly the classic style, presumably then from the 1900 era.
6.5 x 6.1 x 4.7 cm. An excellent and showy specimen festooned with lustrous, bi-pyramidal, butterscotch-colored wulfenite crystals from a new find at the Mina Ojuela at Mapimi, Mexico. Crystals reach 1.7 cm and there are a few doubly terminated crystals scattered about, including the largest crystal, which is very well-placed. The exact mine location is Level 6, San Juan Poniente vein. This sturdy piece has excellent 3-dimensionality and is not just a flat plate.
SHARP, EXCEPTIONALLY lustrous crystals to 1.5 cm, perched on actual crystallized calcite matrix! I cannot tell you how rare this is! Mostly, the wulfies are jumbled together and not isolated....but beyond that they tend to be on flat, uncrystallized matrix whereas this one is on calcite crystals (however minute they may be)! It is a stunning specimen, because of the stark color contrast. 7.6 x 6 x 2.7 cm
4.0 x 3.5 x 2.7 cm. A fine wulfenite specimen from the older finds at the San Francisco Mine of Mexico. Yellow mimetite balls are included in the water-clear, very glassy, yellow wulfenite windowpanes. The windowpanes have the typical sharp, beveled edges. This is a fine specimen, tine, with no broken crystals, is complete all-around and has orange mimetite balls richly scattered on the matrix. From the 1970s.
6.5 x 5.8 x 2.5 cm. A fine small cabinet specimen festooned with highly lustrous, reddish-orange wulfenite blades to 6 mm. The wulfenites have sharp beveled edges and the matrix is nicely 3-dimensional. This specimen is from the one-time find in China in 2006-2007.
4.5 x 3.3 x 2.2 cm. A fine miniature specimen of quartz replacing wulfenite crystals on a matrix covered with sparkly botryoids of pastel-green to blue, drusy quartz from the Finch Mine of Arizona. The largest crystal is 1.2 cm, all are pristine and the pseudomorphs are nicely translucent. This is a rich specimen from this find. Ex. K.D. Smith Collection of Tempe, Arizona.
