5.0 x 1.1 x 1.0 cm. A beautiful pair of gemmy, blue-green, thin, prismatic Vivianite crystals measuring up to 8 mm sits atop a gem quality, hexagonal Quartz crystal from this classic locality. Chicote Grande is one of the "forgotten" mines in Bolivia over the last 20 years as very little material has been available in recently, but in its day, this locality provided collectors with some very attractive display specimens. A good Vivianite from this well known Bolivian mine.

Vivianite, Siderite from Huanuni mine, Huanuni, Dalence Province, Oruro Department, Bolivia [db_pics/mdpics/MD-246304b.jpg]

5.7 x 4.6 x 2.6 cm. The mine at Huanuni has produced some of the finest Vivianite specimens in the world, but fine quality specimens have all but disappeared from the market since the mine was taken over by the Bolivian government several years ago. Due to the vast tin deposits in this mine, removing colorful phosphates is strictly forbidden, and the levels upon which these beautiful specimens are found have been intentionally flooded to keep the miners out. This specimen features a few sharp, lustrous, gemmy, rich blue-green color prismatic crystals measuring up to 2.5 cm long on sparkling brown Siderite matrix. This is from a find from about the mid 1990s, when there was a relative bonanza at Huanuni for Vivianites. About ten years later, there were no more specimens, and there truly hasn't been since. Ex. Brian Kosnar Collection.

6.9 x 2.8 x 1.9 cm. A gemmy, blocky, large vivianite crystal with a dramatic, steeply sloping termination from recent finds in Bolivia. The gorgeous, emerald-green color saturation and gemminess are highlighted by the backlit photo. This is a very fine representation of the species and locale. The front of the specimen is pristine.

8.7 x 7.4 x 5.2 cm. A fairly large, rich specimen with sharp crystals of ludlamite nicely isolated on matrix and to 6 mm in size. A partial vivianite crystal is off to one side and small smaltite (by X-ray) crystals accompany. Classic old material from the 1960s era of mining here. Purchased in 1968 towards the end of the productive years when the mine was open. I personally think these discrete ludlamite crystals characteristic of the locale, nicely spaced on matrix, are among the finest for the species. Ex. John White Collection.

5.2 x 2.5 x 1.5 cm. A superb, spiky spray of lustrous, black vivianite blades with unreal, golden-green iridescence from the Blackbird Mine of Idaho. These are American classics and date to the 1950 or 1960s. One face is probably cleaved, but this remains a very highly representative example of the species and locale. Seldom available in this quality. Ex. Mullane Collection.
