NOT a Gaudefroyite ! this one fooled us at first, too! It is a SUPERB mangan-vesuvianite with deep wine-red color when backlit, so you can be sure of the ID. This specimen features xls of the highest quality and the best lustre, almost glassy in brightness - rare for the species. There is some damage to smaller crystals, but most major crystals are complete, and the display is phenomenal. The matrix is sparkling, minutely crystallized andradite garnet. The large single crystal atop is doubly-terminated and almost 2 cm long tip to tip.

An important and very fine vesuvianite from this classic locality! This specimen features fat, wine-red crystals (shown overlit in the bottom photo to be sure that is conveyed). They are glassy, translucent in the outer layers, and just plain beautiful. No damage on display face, though there is a contacted spot on the back of the top crystal and the rear of the piece. These Italian vesuvianites have long set the standard for the species as far as Europeans are concerned, and their only real competition, from the Jefrey Quarry, is of different color and crystal habit. I ahve sene much lesser pieces priced at double this price, in euros yet, on the tables at Munich.
4.4 x 4.2 x 3.0 cm. Gorgeous, very glassy and gemmy, light orange grossular garnets on matrix and nicely accented with green vesuvianite crystals from the famous and now-closed Jeffrey Mine of Quebec. The large garnet is 1.3 cm and the central crystals are undamaged, save for a trivial bruise on the large crystal. The periphery damage is certainly not detracting, as you can see. ex. Swoboda collection.

6.7 x 4.4 x 1.0 cm. A GORGEOUS plate RICHLY covered with intensely gemmy and glassy orange grossular garnet crystals to 5 mm with vesuvianite from Eden Mills, Vermont. CLASSIC and beautifully choice material from the Ken Hollmann Collection.
7.5 x 5.8 x 3.1 cm. A HUGE, crudely tetragonal vesuvianite crystal from the Type Locality - Mt. Vesuvius, Italy! This glassy and gemmy, brown giant is beautifully etched and hails from the Ed Swoboda Collection. This is very old, CLASSIC material, seldom seen in this size and quality.
2.2 x 1.7 x 1.4 cm. A SUPERB, gemmy and lustrous, 1.0 cm grossular garnet crystal with OUTRAGEOUS burnt-orange color and beautifully perched on vesuvianite matrix from Eden Mills, Vermont. Beautiful and aesthetic. Ex. Dick Jones Collection.
3.0 x 5.4 x 3.4 cm. A classic Vesuvianite specimen from the well known locality at San Vito. The crystals on this specimen are extremely sharp and lustrous showing a gemmy brown color. They are associated with whitish colored, thin crystals of Meionite that fluoresce yellow under SW UV light. These Alpine Vesuvianites are not often seen on the market anymore. A great association specimen of this hard to find historic material. Ex. Kosnar Collection.
4.7 x 3.7 x 2.8 cm. This is a large, very rich cluster of bright, gemmy vesuvianite crystals with GLASSY luster, from the famous Jeffrey Mine, which closed to further mining around a year ago - meaning no more of these world-class vesuvianites. These crystals have a really nice balance of the classic purple and green colors.
4.9 x 4.0 x 3.7 cm. Gemmy and lustrous, honey-colored grossular garnets to 8 mm aesthetically perched on the side of a beautiful cluster of very glassy vesuvianite crystals from Eden Mills. The little starburst of glassy quartz crystals is a very nice accent. Ex. George Elling Collection.
0.8 x 0.6 x 0.6 cm. A HOT purpley-pink gem crystal of vesuvianite, the most rare and desirable color, from the now-closed Jeffrey Mine. The crystal is a doubly-terminated floater with super luster. There are smaller crystals growing on its side.
1.3 x 0.7 x 0.3 cm. A small but rare-colored shocking purpley-pink vesuvianite crystal from the now-closed mining at the Jeffrey. The crystal is terminated.
4.3 x 3.1 x 2.4 cm. These are some of the more attractive Vesuvianite crystals to come out of any "Alpine cleft" locality. This piece features several razor sharp, highly lustrous, gemmy, "root beer" colored prisms of Vesuvianite on matrix.
4.8 x 4.0 x 3.9 cm. This specimen is solid vesuvianite - some massive, some formed into fine crystals! It blends both green and purple hues. The purple crystals are primarily small, and the green ones measure to about 0.7 cm, with fine, glassy faces shining everywhere. The Jeffrey closed awhile back, and the material (which was never common) is now notably scarce.
6.3 x 4.3 x 3.9 cm. A rich cluster of gemmy, light lemony-green vesuvianites, from the closed location of the Jeffrey Mine in Quebec. These chunky crystals have glassy luster, and measure to just over one centimeter.
