MD-21362 - Vermiculite - - Archived Brinton's Quarry, West Chester, Westtown Township, Chester Co., Pennsylvania, USA cabinet, 13 x 10 x 1 cm
A fairly attractive and unusually thick micaceous plate of dark greenish vermiculite, nicknamed Jefferisite at the time because the best were noted to have been collected by famed East Coast collector William Jefferis (whose collection later ended up at the Carnegie). It is not unreasonable to suppose that he might have donated these to the Haverford collection at the urging of his many Quaker friends in the local mineral communities. Old museum number painted on one side.
