This is a near floater of lustrous, hoppered, brownish-green, vanadinite crystals from a most scarce locality.

Vanadinite on Calcite from San Carlos Mine, Chihuahua, Mexico [db_pics/pics/sn169a.jpg]

This is not the most expensive vanadinite specimen in the lot, but it is my personal favorite. Individual, barrel shaped crystals of lustrous, translucent, orange, crystals of vanadinite have been emplaced in a matrix of colorless, gemmy, calcite. WOW!

ex.  Sam Nasser

Vanadinite from San Carlos Mine, CHihuahua, Mexico [db_pics/pics/sn174a.jpg]

This very aesthetic vanadinite specimen looks eerily like a saguaro cactus. A long, tapering, lustrous and translucent, orange vanadinite crystal is offset by two other crystals at an acute angle. Dramatic and very fine for th elocale!

SN175 - Vanadinite (HUGE CRYSTAL!) - SOLD
ACF Mine, Mibladen, Morocco

thumbnail, 2.8 x 2.7 x 2.6 cm
share specimen

ex.  Sam Nasser

Vanadinite (HUGE CRYSTAL!) from ACF Mine, Mibladen, Morocco [db_pics/pics/sn175a.jpg]

A large, composite, floater crystal of vanadinite exhibits at its top termination, a rich, lustrous, gemmy, orange color which grades down to a lustrous, bright, light brown rootbeer color. The specimen also has a cavernous appearance. The only drawback are two minor wilbers at the main termination, which keeps this specimen from selling for over $1000. As it is, he had it at $600 and i reduced it to make it very reasonable. It is a very complex piece, not easily shown in photos, and better in person. The sheer SIZE of this single crystal is shocking!

One of the best vana's I have seen for the locality in its size range, with big fat, juicy crystals in an attractive arrangement. Old material!

THE PHOTOS DO NOT DO THIS JUSTICE. In person, it GLOWS with color: This is a gorgeous, sparkling , 3-dimensional specimen with the brightest mimetite you can imagine. It has lustre that is just fake-looking, and a subtle shift of colors from yellow to burnt orange within the same specimen. It is obviously an interesting locale, but more than that it is a very pretty, unique, lead minerals specimen that stands on its own no matter where it is from. It looks like no mimetite I can think of from any other place, and will stand out in a case! On very close inspection, one realizes that some of the more orangey crystals are actually small hexagonal plates: vanadinite. ex UPMC - University of Paris collection, exchanged out to French dealer Alain Martaud some time ago. I have never seen another, myself.

A sharp, and rather large, vanadinite crystal from this classic US locale! It is intensely colored, and very dramatically hoppered in its growth. Ex Evan Jones collection. Try to find a more impressive Arizona vanadinite thumbnail!!! I think you would be hard pressed to do so. However, I need to note there is one clean repair to part of the tip, visible from the rear but unseen from the front. Joe Budd photos

A stunning miniature with cogwheel-like form and superb, radiating crystals. A few tiny dings on periphery at bottom, but otherwise pristine and complete all around. The side edges have flashes of internal gemminess that are striking. As with much of this pocket, the backside is covered by an oriented secondary growth of powdery brown vanadinite. Xls to 2 cm

This unusual specimen has a 3.3-cm giant crystal perched atop a cluster of smaller ones. It is complete all around. As with much of this pocket, the backside is covered by an oriented secondary growth of powdery brown vanadinite , and in this case the right side also has this feature. The oriented coating serves actually to accentuate the geometry

A stunning miniature with amazing, complex, hoppered side edges that have gear-like form to them. These also have flashes of internal gemminess and yellow-orange color that are striking. As with much of this pocket, the backside is covered by an oriented secondary growth of powdery brown vanadinite. The front of the specimen is intriguing for the geometric stairsteps of which it is composed, but looking into the top hoppered faces is perhaps more appealing yet. Large Xls to 3 cm
