4JB13-LC149 - Vanadinite - $ 650 SOLD Taouz, Morocco small cabinet, 6.5 x 6 x 4.6 cm
Fabulous light gray-brown specimen that came from the famous finds of the late 70's. These crystals show the typical barrel/hopper form of Pyromorphite, and the luster on all crystal sides is excellent...except it really IS vanadinite. OK, so they come red now to be sure, but these interesting waxy brown vana's are just as classic, and much rarer. For what it is, this is a gem.
4JB18-LC187 - Vanadinite - $ 450 SOLD Mibladen, Morocco miniature, 4.5 x 3 x 3 cm
Killer miniature from the world's most famous locality for the species. The thick (up to .9 cm!) crystals have very nice orange-red color and highly desired mirror-like luster on all six sides of the crystals. OLDSTYLE, fat, lustrous crystals which are quite readily different from the more contemporary material in person.
BEM-32 - Vanadinite var. Endlichite - $ 750 SOLD Silver City, Grant County, New Mexico, USA small cabinet, 7.0 x 6.3 x 3.6 cm
A VERY RARE turn-of-the-century specimen of yellow vanadinite, previously thought to be an entirely different species and given the name of "endlichite," from a classic silver mining district that in its early days produced some of these things in the upper levels. Sadly , few specimens from those days remain today, at least on the open market. I have seen only 2 other specimens of this material in the past, both thumbnails. From the miniature rarities suite of Lawrence Conklin, who exchanged it from the American Museum of Natural History, where it landed with the donation of the Clarence Bement collection around 1910 by JP Morgan.
J11T-171 - Vanadinite - $ 950 SOLD Abenab mine, Abenab, Namibia small cabinet, 6.0 x 2.3 x 2.3 cm
A very rare old vanadinite from one of the oldest localities for giant crystals of this species, Abenab in former Southwest Africa. This is a huge hoppered crystal, complete all around, that has a brown-red color inside. As is typical for the locality, there is a yellow-brown coating of descloizite and/or mimetite mixed in microscopic crystals, atop. Pieces of this size are VERY uncommon on the market today! It was acquired from Pala Properties by Ed Ruggiero in 1977.
LTH-03 - Vanadinite (orange) - $ 500 ACF Mine, Mibladen, Morocco miniature, 3.3 x 1.3 x 1.7 cm ex. Martin Lewadny
Attractive, and quite unusual, this orange-red Vanadinite consisting of a series of stacked tabular crystals. The color is a fine and bright fire-like hue, and each of the crystals has very good luster and complex individual habit, almost rosettes perched upon tabular crystals. The largest is about 2.5 x 2.3 x .2 cm. Very aesthetic. AND, there is a definite weird orangey color to this piece! it is not a pure red tone as usual. FLOATER!
LTH-30 - Vanadinite - $ 275 SOLD ACF Mine, Mibladen, Morocco thumbnail, 2.8 x 2.5 x 2.1 cm ex. Martin Lewadny
"Striking" is the only way to describe this incredible Vanadanite which REALLY stands out from the crowd! The main crystal is 2.7 cm across, it has superb luster, and a beautiful deep orange-red color. The tabular portion is nearly .5 cm thick. However, that is just the beginning. In reality, portions of the Vanadanite grow to a thickness of 1.2 cm! Intergrown in the back, as well as on the main face, are numerous high quality Vanadinites. Some in the back themselves reach 1 cm across and .6 cm thick - on their own they would have made a great Vanadanite specimen. Overall, this is a fantastic specimen - aesthetic, unusual, and sharp as can be. It is a FULL and imposing thumbnail. ex Sam Nasser collection
