4JD26 - Uvite - $ 200 SOLD
Brumado, Bahia, Brazil
thumbnail, 3 x 2.5 x 2.2 cm

Sorry, we have no images of this specimen at present.

Beautiful deep green crystals of this rare tourmaline varietal with superb luster on all faces, and not just the trigonal terminations. LARGE crystals for the species, too! This lovely specimen is a series of intergrown, truncated crystals, with contacts in the back and along one side. From a classic locality in Brazil that is not now producing these specimens any more. Much better in person

4JD33 - Uvite - $ 200 SOLD
Brumado, Bahia, Brazil
miniature, 3.6 x 2.3 x 2.1 cm

Sorry, we have no images of this specimen at present.

A huge compound crystal, highly lustrous and with classic rich green color! The tabular habit allows for the trigonal terminations to appear, more dramatically than you normally see on these uvites. A very pretty example of this member of the tourmaline group from one of the most famous locales for it. Also, the crystal is relatively large for the find.

4JD35 - Uvite - $ 75 SOLD
Brumado, Bahia, Brazil
miniature, 3.8 x 2.4 x 1.8 cm

Sorry, we have no images of this specimen at present.

A lovely partial crystal (the top half) with deep green color and excellent luster. What makes the specimen so unique are the two attached quartz cystals, including a very nice 1.3 cm crystal growing right out of the termination at just the right aesthetic angle. A very good combination piece and a large uvite for the price.

4JD42 - Uvite - $ 195 SOLD
Brumado, Bahia, Brazil
miniature, 4 x 2.9 x 1.5 cm

Sorry, we have no images of this specimen at present.

Lovely deep green Uvite tourmaline with one very large tabular crystal and two small ones along the edges. As usual, the luster is glassy. The plus-side of this specimen is that the edges on the large termination are beveled, forming a beautiful modified hexagonal tip. HUGE CRYSTAL FOR THE FIND!

A floater! This is a brilliant, high-quality doubly-terminated crystal ,complete all around, and perched on quartz. This is as good as any I have seen for the size. ex. American Museum of Natural History , Clarence Bement collection, donated in 1910

Tourmaline var. Uvite - Gouverneur, St. Lawrence County, New York

An old, very interesting historic New York tourmaline specimen featuring lustrous brown uvite crystals to 8 cm, in a cluster. The cluster is complete all around and on all sides, very 3-dimensional. It came from the Columbia University collection to the American Museum, and was exchanged out to Lawrence Conklin in the 1970s. It remaine din his collection until recently. While "brown and ugly" to some, compared to tourmalines from other places, this is a highly significant piece with a style very different, and much more sophisticated as a cluster, than one typically sees from this old locale.

A very fine and unusually attractive display specimen of svanbergit ecrystals to 6mm on matrix of contrasting green uvite. The Svanbergite is large and well-formed, and the perch on uvite is unusual. ex. Carlos Barbosa

Uvite and Magnesite - Brumado, Bahia, Brazil

Uvite and magnesite are a classic combo from this Brazilian locality. Usually, the magnesite merely "accents" the uvites. But here, you have at one end of the specimen a group of lustrous, deep red uvites (the more rare color, I should add), and at the other end, a large, razor-sharp rhomb of magnesite that stands out from the smaller ones. This gives the specimen a beautiful balance, I think, and sets it apart from teh more common material that emphasizes only one of the two species.

Uvite, Magnesite, Florencite - Serra das Éguas, Brumado (Bom Jesus dos Meiras), Bahia, Northeast Region, Brazil

15.1 x 13.5 x 5.6 cm. This is a specimen of the rare RED uvites (more rare than the greens) from Brumado, on the familiar matrix of sparkly crystalline magnesite rhombs. There are dozens of little crystals here in rich clusters on the large matrix. Absolutely beautiful contrast! The uglier little beige crystals are examples of super-rare florencite, in sharp crystals for the species.

Uvite, Magnesite - Serra das Éguas, Brumado (Bom Jesus dos Meiras), Bahia, Northeast Region, Brazil

6.6 x 3.8 x 1.6 cm. Red uvites are rarer than the greens, and here are two wonderful crystals perched on a contrasting matrix of stark white magnesite (the classic combo from here). The crystals measure just under one centimeter. They show BRILLIANT luster, razor-sharp form and fine transparency. This is a rare find, as uvite is commonly green.

Uvite, Talc - North-West Frontier Province, Pakistan

6.8 x 5.2 x 3.4 cm. These extremely distinctive uvites were found last year in Pakistan, and several things make them interesting. First, they are isolated on this chalky, intensely white talc matrix (unusual!), so they really pop out visually. But they also have a very unique deep sherry color - and are gemmy! The crystals on this specimen measure up to one centimeter.

Uvite, Magnesite - Serra das Éguas, Brumado (Bom Jesus dos Meiras), Bahia, Northeast Region, Brazil

6.9 x 4.8 x 2.3 cm. Red uvites are much rarer than the green ones. There are three uvites here, one of them a superb one-centimeter crystal perched at the edge of a matrix covered with crystalline, sparkling magnesite. All three crystals have glassy luster.

Uvite - Serra das Éguas, Brumado (Bom Jesus dos Meiras), Bahia, Northeast Region, Brazil

4.8 x 3.6 x 2.6 cm. A superb crystal 1.5 cm across dominates this specimen of uvite with magnesite, from Bahia, where this combination is classic. The crystals are a beautiful bottle green, very lustrous and quite gemmy under good light. They are aesthetically intergrown with gemmy rhombs of magnesite.

MD-119668 - Uvite, Quartz - - Archived
Serra das Éguas, Brumado (Bom Jesus dos Meiras), Bahia, Northeast Region, Brazil
miniature, 3.7 x 2.1 x 1.3 cm.

Uvite, Quartz - Serra das Éguas, Brumado (Bom Jesus dos Meiras), Bahia, Northeast Region, Brazil

3.7 x 2.1 x 1.3 cm. This is a single, whopper uvite crystal - just under 4 cm across, which makes it really spectacular for the species. But it is also beautiful, having fine luster, and with a gemmy, doubly-terminated quartz crystal having grown right on its display face! The crystal is complete all around, and well-terminated.

Uvite - Serra das Éguas, Brumado (Bom Jesus dos Meiras), Bahia, Northeast Region, Brazil

2.6 x 2.3 x 1.8 cm. A HUGE, INCREDIBLY GEMMY, yellow to green uvite crystal from Brumado, Brazil. The gemminess shown in the toplit and backlit photos is simply outstanding. The bit of tiny, glassy magnesite crystals at the base is a very nice accent. Ex. J. Cilen and George Elling Collections.
