MD-160215 - Tobermorite - - Archived Concepción del Oro, Mun. de Concepción del Oro, Zacatecas, Mexico miniature, 3.9 x 2.3 x 1.9 cm.
3.9 x 2.3 x 1.9 cm. Brilliantly shimmering, lustrous, large balls of tobermorite crystals , forming a translucent "blob" over matrix of pyrite, make this the most visibly appealing example of the species I have seen myself. It’s a display-quality miniature, from old Mexican finds (I am told 1960s). This was in the Marty Zinn collection for a long time (#1492). Apparently the small acicular tufts are also tobermorite.
MD-271430 - Tobermorite, Ellestadite, Calcite - - Archived http://www.mindat.org/photo-38006.html. cabinet, 12.0 x 8.5 x 3.3 cm.
12.0 x 8.5 x 3.3 cm. Tobermorite and ellestadite are both very rare silicates. This fine cabinet specimen is very richly covered on both side by snow-white grains of tobermorite and sparse grains of tan-beige ellestadite in beautiful blue calcite. There are even a few vesuvianite crystals scattered about. Seldom available, in this size and in very rich and attractive material, this is from the Crestmore quarries of California. Compare to the specimen in the Natural History Museum, London, here: http://www.mindat.org/photo-38006.html. This is a superb piece for both species, you will see.
