2.3 x 1.5 x 1.2 cm. It is quite unusual to see these bizarre Mexican cassiterites on the market - so called "wood tin" cassiterites, for their woody appearance (tin being the component of cassiterite that makes it an important ore worldwide). It has a broccoli form, with a stalk and botryoidal cap.
MD-160365 - Tin - - Archived Badiko District, Bauchi State, Nigeria thumbnail, 0.7 x 0.4 x 0.3 cm.
0.7 x 0.4 x 0.3 cm. A HISTORIC and noteworthy native tin thumbnail from an UNCOMMON locality - the Badiko District of Nigeria! Native tin is RARE worldwide and this is an excellent quality piece. This silver-gray, subhedral was collected in 1893 and for many years resided in the Sorbonne Collection in Paris (according to previous owner). John Saul, a collector of native elements who runs ruby mines in Kenya, executed a major trade with the Sorbonne and recently I ended up with this VERY RARE element specimen from this locality.
MD-169836 - Cassiterite (Var: Wood Tin) - - Archived Durango, Mexico small cabinet, 6.3 x 4.5 x 3.7 cm.
6.3 x 4.5 x 3.7 cm. A sculptural and highly unusual, grape-like cluster of botryoidal, brownish-black cassiterite from a very uncommon Mexico locality. The botryoids are nicely accented by brick-red hematite flakes. This variety of cassiterite is called "stream tin", due to the rounded, stream-worn character of the cassiterite. Stream tin was named by Cornish miners from the streams, where the rich deposits were first found in Cornwall. This is excellent, OLD-TIME material from the Charles Hansen Collection.
