4JB1-LC166 - Tennantite on Pyrite - $ 375 SOLD Huaron, Peru small cabinet, 6.5 x 5.6 x 2.7 cm
Excellent crystals of Tennantite to 2.3 cm with excellent mirror-like luster. Crystals of this size and quality are simply not that common from this district, or anywhere else, for that matter. The matrix is composed of a fine pyrite druse with beautiful quartz crystals intergrown. One trivial tiny ding but otherwise Superb!
CKTSU-30 - Tennantite - $ 450 Tsumeb Mine, Tsumeb, Namibia miniature, 5.0 x 4.0 x 2.4 cm ex. Charlie Key
Most tennantites, lets admit, are lumpy and dark and ugly at first glance. Not so this one! Tetrahedrons of lustrous black tennantite, to 1.5 cm across, are in a really sculptural and 3-dimensional cluster here that makes fo ran unusually display-worthy specimen. This is an excellent example of a fairly rare ore mineral at Tsumeb.
CKTSU-31 - Tennantite - $ 1250 Tsumeb Mine, Tsumeb, Namibia miniature, 4.6 x 4.4 x 4.1 cm ex. Charlie Key
This is a SINGLE HUGE, nearly pristine, tennantite crystal, to almost 5 cm in length with a smaller sidecar and a little ore matrix at its base. It is dark gray with iridescent highlights, probably from a surface coating of bornite. At the base there is minor contact which is insignificant when measuring the quality of the specimen. A significant tennantite and a displayable one!
CKTSU-32 - Tennantite pseudo after Chalcocite - $ 1500 SOLD Tsumeb Mine, Tsumeb, Namibia small cabinet, 7.1 x 3.6 x 2.5 cm ex. Charlie Key
Like most Tsumeb lovers, Charlie seems to have a love for tennantite. What were once crystals of prismatic, well formed, Chalcocite , have since been transformed into pseudomorphs of eerie black Tennantite. The crystals reach 7.0 cm in length, making this a major Tsumeb pseudomorph and of a good display quality, too!
ES166 - Tennantite with Quartz - $ 375 Zacatecas, Mexico cabinet, 15 x 7.9 x 5.5 cm ex. Ernie Schlichter
FC16 - Mimetite on Quartz and Tennantite - $ 4500 SOLD Tsumeb, Namibia small cabinet, 7.2 x 4.2 x 5 cm ex. James and Marjorie Ferguson
This specimen hosts a gorgeous flowery cluster of mimetite crystals to 1 cm, gracefully curving in upon themselves, and centered in matrix. It is a very unique piece in overall appearance, to me, and is quite attractive in person. It is very 3-dimensional, and the mimetites are set off so nicely, that it ranks up there as a great mimetite even though the mims themselves are not very large.
HECK-122 - Tennantite on Quartz - $ 950 Concepcion del Oro, Zacatecas, Mexico small cabinet, 7.7 x 7.2 x 3.7 cm ex. Richard Heck
These are still in some circles considered among best of species, for the stereotypic crystal habit and isolation on beautiful contrasting matrix. A matrix of drusy, white quartz is studded with crystals of nearly equant, lustrous,metallic-gray, tennantite to 2 cm across. I particularly like the two large crystals perched high on top of the matrix , which are very dramatic (and quite large for crystals of this old classic find).
MD-119318 - Tennantite - - Archived Cobre Mine, Concepción del Oro, Mun. de Concepción del Oro, Zacatecas, Mexico cabinet, 12.6 x 7.6 x 5.2 cm.
12.6 x 7.6 x 5.2 cm. A large and super-rich old tennantite from the classic Zacatecas locality! This was a ridge of matrix that stuck out into the pocket, resulting in its being covered on BOTH SIDES with this pretty combo of milky little quartz crystals and sharp tennantites, the tennantites being beautifully isolated and complemented by the quartz rather than just pressed together in a nebulous mass. Some brassy chalcopyrites add a touch of gold here and there.
MD-119807 - Tennantite, Quartz - - Archived Cobre Mine, Concepción del Oro, Mun. de Concepción del Oro, Zacatecas, Mexico cabinet, 11.9 x 7.6 x 4.4 cm.
11.9 x 7.6 x 4.4 cm. This is a very large and very rich specimen of tennantite crystals with quartz, a classic old Zacatecas piece out of the collection of Gary Hansen. The tennantites here measure up to over 2 cm. Many shiny-metallic faces show. Other faces have a pretty "antique copper" patina from the copper content (tennantite is Copper Arsenic Sulfide).
MD-121261 - Tennantite, Bornite - - Archived Butte, Butte District, Silver Bow Co., Montana, USA small cabinet, 5.1 x 4.1 x 1.9 cm.
5.1 x 4.1 x 1.9 cm. Now here is a wonderful old Butte classic - a rich specimen of sharp, triangular crystals of tennantite, with gunmetal luster, on a base of bornite (with minor associated chalcopyrite). This is old material from an classic American mining locality!
MD-131565 - Tennantite - - Archived Tsumeb Mine (Tsumcorp Mine), Tsumeb, Otjikoto (Oshikoto) Region, Namibia miniature, 4.4 x 2.9 x 2.1 cm.
4.4 x 2.9 x 2.1 cm. An impressive specimen consisting of two large, intergrown tennantite crystals from the classic Tsumeb locality. They measure an impressive 3 cm along the edge. Note the slight green patina from micro malachite (both are copper minerals, so this association is not uncommon).
MD-136100 - Tennantite, Quartz, Baryte - - Archived Cobre Mine, Concepción del Oro, Mun. de Concepción del Oro, Zacatecas, Mexico cabinet, 11.4 x 7.1 x 6.9 cm.
11.4 x 7.1 x 6.9 cm. This old specimen of dramatically-isolated tennantite crystals came out of collection of the well-known A.E. Seaman Mineralogical museum. Measuring to one centimeter, the tennantites are on and embedded in a layer of stark white crystalline quartz that has pseudomorphed barite. The back of the specimen is a sort of mixed druse of micro-tennantite and quartz.
MD-139803 - Tennantite, Quartz - - Archived Tsumeb Mine (Tsumcorp Mine), Tsumeb, Otjikoto (Oshikoto) Region, Namibia miniature, 4.7 x 4.6 x 2.7 cm.
4.7 x 4.6 x 2.7 cm. SHARP tennanite crystals of about an inch, covered with gorgeous sparkling quartz, make this unusual in that it’s not your typical gray-black tennantite but something visually more appealing! Complete on front and sides, contacted only in back. Ex. Charlie Key stock.
MD-140336 - Tennantite, Azurite - - Archived Tsumeb Mine (Tsumcorp Mine), Tsumeb, Otjikoto (Oshikoto) Region, Namibia miniature, 3.4 x 2.0 x 1.3 cm.
3.4 x 2.0 x 1.3 cm. A UNIQUE and aesthetic Tsumeb pseudomorph of matte-gray tennantite after a very sharp azurite crystal with a fine, chisel termination. Some say they are after chalcocite, but I do not believe that is universal in any case. The pseudo is jauntily attached to tennantite with malachite matrix. The crystal is complete all-around and is undamaged. Formerly in the G. Linde Collection, a Tsumeb miner from 1921-1935 and ex. Brent Lockhart Collection. Superb example of this rare alteration.
MD-146122 - Tennantite, Mimetite - - Archived Tsumeb Mine (Tsumcorp Mine), Tsumeb, Otjikoto (Oshikoto) Region, Namibia miniature, 3.5 x 2.4 x 1.9 cm.
3.5 x 2.4 x 1.9 cm. A showy and excellent cluster of sharp, intergrown, tetrahedral, matte-black tennantite crystals from Tsumeb. This textbook specimen is enhanced by sparkly mimetite microcrystals. Choice and UNCOMMON material and from the Dave Mansfield Collection, son-in-law of Sid Pieters.
