4JD36 - Apatite - $ 125 SOLD
Panasqueira, Portugal
thumbnail, 3 x 3 x 2.6 cm

Sorry, we have no images of this specimen at present.

Every good collection should have a Panasqueira Apatite, and this is a very good one. The specimen is actually two major crystals and one minor one arranged in a very aesthetic cluster. All have a nice green color, glassy luster on all six sides, and good terminations. You cannot go wrong with such a good apatite from one of the classic localities

AP1 - Apatite with Fluorite - $ 450 SOLD
Panasqueira, Portugal
miniature, 4.0 x 2.5 x 1.6 cm

Apatite with Fluorite - Panasqueira, Portugal

Unusual, yellow apatite in the form of a radial aggregate, dusted with minute specks of chalcopyrite. The surface of the hemispherical cluster has a multifaceted and sparkly lustre to it. There is microcrystalline pale-purple fluorite, which is very rare for the location, in association on the backside. The piece can be displayed vertically or horizontally.

Thick, glassy, gemmy, transparent crystals to 1.7 cm thick and 3 cm across make this a steller display quality miniature. Seldom do you see so much good apatite concentrated on a miniature-sized specimen! It is complete and 3-dimensional all around. In person, the crystals are MUCH gemmier than they appear in photos.

This specimen features a 2 x 1.5 x 1 cm apatite perched smartly atop a perfect quartz, partially enveloping the quartz termination. It is transparent, lustrous, glassy, and pristine. You couldn't have forged a better aesthetic miniature than this! In person, the apatite is more gemmy and has a faint hint of pastel color to it.

AP12 - Apatite - $ 1500 SOLD
Panasqueira, Portugal
miniature, 4.9 x 4.6 x 3.0 cm

Apatite - Panasqueira, Portugal

This is an unusually large crystal of the rare deep green color from the locality. It is a fat, very lustrous crystal that just leaps out at you visually, from a shelf, with its strong color and high lustre. It is complete on all sides except the back where it was naturally contacted.

AP13 - Apatite on Ferberite with Topaz - $ 850 SOLD

This material, I am told, came from one pocket in the late 1970s. I have seen only 3 specimens for sale out there. All 3 i have seen feature very unusual wheat-sheaf-like apatite crystals of a pastel yellow hue, in association with ferberite. More interestingly, they also have small 1-3 mm crystals of faintly blue topaz in association, as this one does scatterred about on the ferberites! This is an excelleent example of a rare association!

WOW! This specimen features GEM crystals to 1.6 cm, nicely isolated on matrix of siderite-coated ferberite. The apatites are pristine and gorgeous. The ferberite is not quite complete, but it is on the back anyhow. Pieces with crystals of this quality are simply unobtainable now.

AP15 - Apatite (floater thumbnail!) - $ 450 SOLD

A classic style of crystal with a deep purple band in the core, surrounded by clear apatite, makes this specimen really an excellent thumbnail for the locality. It is so glassy it is almost slippery, complete all around, and a floater. BETTER COLOR IN PERSON!

This exceptional crystal is a complete floater, gemmy/transparent throughout (more so in person than it appears) and is perched on a stalk of siderite. It is quite simply a world class thumbnail. In the pics you can see some of the subtle interplay of greenish, blue, and lavender color zones in the crystal, which changes depending on the lighting. It is so glassy it is almost slippery, complete all around, and a floater.

This crystal features an intricately bevelled front face, combined with exquisite crystallography on the well-developed edges. This is a really glassy, gemmy, crystal that has the glassiest lustre i have seen on apatite from the lcoality and color so rich that nearly glows with color (especially when backlit slightly). It is transparent throughout, except the very base, despite its thickness! There is some very minor edge wear on several back edges but nothign that visually detracts. For the size, it is actually in extremely good condition.

Everybody WANTS a purple apatite from here, but the really purple ones are so uncommon that most folks only see the "lavender" hue and not the real purply pieces, such as this one! It is a glassy, intensely colorful crystal with interesting phantom zones inside ranging from yellow to green to purple (i count at least 5 zones). The purple cap is thick, intense, and shows readily without special lighting. Minor siderite adds accent and contrast to the apatite. Complete all around except the bottom face.

A lustrous, starkly geometric cluster of two beautiful crystals of the classic mixed color hue from here (part green, part blue, overall sorta a grey-greenish color in the end)

Everybody WANTS a purple apatite from here, but the really purple ones are so uncommon that most folks only see the "lavender" hue and not the real purply pieces, such as this one! It is a glassy, intensely colorful cluster , and is a complete FLOATER with no attachment point on the apatites. The minor association of sparkly muscovite provides a nice contrasting accent. Small miniature, but of such a quality as to be extremely hard to find, and with the color it displays with impact greater than its size might indicate....

An intricate, extremely fine cluster of glassy crystals to almost 1.5 cm! They are interconnected like a puzzle, with minor bits of siderite in the interstices, and it is extremely aesthetic overall.

The piece is a floater cluster with glassy crystals, very translucent, to 3 cm! In person, they are more translucent than they appear . Moreover, this specimen has a very rare blue color to it! This is the rarest color of apatite for the locality! It is not quite a pure blue as hints of purple predominate, but around the edges it very definitely is blue when caught in the right light - it is as close as we can get here! Calling it purple-blue would probably be fair and accurate, in any case.
