This remarkable specimen features a 10 x 7 x 6 cm twinned calcite still in situ in a gently curving concave vug of top-quality, gemmy apophyllite. The calcite is pristine and the apophyllite as well, except only its periphery along the plate's edges. The piece really "sparkles" in light, which reflects off the apophs and into the calcite, illuminating it from seemingly more angles than you would expect. A 3-diminsional twin of this calibre, on matrix so nicely balanced, is NOT at all common, and I get a piece of this style and quality only about once every 2-3 years
CABINET, 17.0 x 12.6 x 7.1 cm
Though India has for years been producing specimens of both of these minerals in large quantities, the vast majority of them are mediocre, so the really aesthetic ones really stand out and are still quite desirable (and tend to sell rapidly at shows even amongst the tonnage of more common level material). Here is a super-gemmy, blocky-style crystal of apophyllite, with a couple of small sidecar apophs and accenting crystals of peachy-pink stilbite. Sits up artfully on a custom-made acrylic base that comes with the specimen.
LARGE CABINET, 17 x 14 x 10 cm
What can I say? Not only is this a PRISTINE, pretty crystal of apophyllite on a bed of contrasting stilbite – but it’s an absolute monster! It weight 5 POUNDS, is 13 cm corner to corner and over 7 cm thick. Now, granted, it is easy to get jaded about Indian minerals with the volume of mediocre ones that have poured out of the country, but a specimen of just about ANY mineral this large and perfect, particularly in an unusual form such as this rosette, is something to be taken very seriously.
Transparent blades of colorless, gemmy, and lustrous, stilbite, to 1 cm in length, underly and surround deep, teal blue, sprays of cavansite, to 1 cm across. The cavansite crystals are highly lustrous, translucent, and is well arranged throughout the specimen.
A cluster of glassy and gemmy, brilliant green, demantoid crystals has grown on and with an ivory colored matrix of stilbite crystals, to 5 mm in length. The largest demantoid is 1 cm in length. This is an unbelievable melding of stilbite and demantoid in associatio - you don't see that from anywhere else I am aware of (nor is Dr. Pezzotta) and it seems another element of the geological puzzle that produced this locality. Most stilbite is micro, and very few specimens of any quality host both good demantoid and stilbite together. This is a superb, showy miniature, one of only 3 such association pieces I obtained. Even without the stilbite, though, the garnet is of very high quality, color intensity, and crystal size for the find. Although small overall, this is hands down one of my favorites in the lot.
This elegant cluster of glassy and gemmy, richly green demantoid garnets is unusual in its great presentation of the crystals, and in the fact that the white material highlighting and separating them is STILBITE. This is a very rare occurrance at this locality (and to my knowledge unique, in fact). I have only 3 specimens in this lot with stilbite crystals, of which this is one. The crystals are all perched on metasomatized (metamorphosed from limestone) garnet matrix. The largest garnet measures 1.5 cm in length. And, the crystals are GEMMY AND TRANSPARENT like jewels, of really top quality. Then, after the garnets were formed, came the secondary growth of white finely-crystallized stilbite, wreathing the garnets so nicely. This is not a large specimen but its aesthetics make it compelling and gram for gram, one of the finest in the lot here!
This unusual and lovely demantoid specimen hosts glassy and gemmy, light emerald-green crystals, to 1 cm across, emplaced on a sugary, massive garnet matrix. The matrix is actually sparkly, itself. Growing on the matrix and among the garnet crystals are lustrous, white crystals of stilbite, to nearly 1 cm in size. This is one of only 3 specimens in this lot that have associated stilbite. Stilbite is not only just a rarity for this deposit, it is an extreme rarity in association with garnet from ANY locale and serves to highlight the bizarre geology of this deposit. From my understanding of things, there is still not a very good explanation for how the stilbite got here. Overall this is a fine, display quality miniature with subtle unique qualities, and the contrast to the white stilbite is one of those bonuses.
17.5 x 7.4 x 6.6 cm. A large, glittering, amazing specimen from India, a real showstopper! It is a stalactite of quartz that has been completely covered with sparkly microcrystalline apophyllite - and on the apophyllite field have grown dozens of chisel-shaped, pearly stilbite crystals. It is complete all the way around, with a narrow area of contact on back where the stalactite apparently was conjoined with the wall of the vug or cave. (Ex.Ed David Collection).
10.6 x 5.8 x 5.1 cm. These bowties of stilbite are so beautiful, and this one is particularly nice in that it sits on a very well-trimmed matrix, a plate of smaller stilbite crystals of a slightly different shade. The bowtie measures 6.5 cm, and is complete and undamaged all around.
9.4 x 6.1 x 4.1 cm. A shimmering, light salmon-hued "bowtie" of stilbite, complete and undamaged, with a bit of matrix acting as a natural base.
6.6 x 5.7 x 3.7 cm. When you think of contemporary stilbite, you immediately think of India - but, the Daye Mine HAS produced a trickle of nice stilbites. This specimen features light caramel crystal blooms with shimmering luster, on a contrasting matrix.
5.0 x 2.8 x 2.3 cm. This is a beautiful floater "bowtie" of GREEN stilbite (instead of the familiar salmon color), which got this hue from the rich inclusion of the phyllosilicate celadonite. Complete, in fine condition, a beautiful mini of a really interesting mineral "anomaly."
6.1 x 6.0 x 4.2 cm. A sparkling 6-cm stilbite bowtie and another 3 cm crystal crown a matrix of translucent, sparkly quartz here! EVERYTHING sparkles! The stilbite has a druse of quartz over it in parts which adds zest, but is also intrinsically really lustrous.
6.8 x 6.0 x 4.6 cm. A razor sharp 5.5 x 2.5 x 2.5 cm apophyllite crystal sits on smaller apophs and stilbite, aesthetically. The lustre is like glass - top tier. The crystal is very bright and gemmy and is complete all around, making this a VERY dramatic piece that stands out.
