Stilbite-Ca from Upper New Street Quarry (Burger's Quarry), Paterson, Passaic Co., New Jersey, USA [db_pics/mdpics/MD-228516a.jpg]

8.7 x 8.2 x 4.7 cm. The quarry at Upper New Street is over 100 years old (it opened in 1893). During the mid 1980's to early 1990's, there was a lot of collecting that took place between the Upper New Street and Lower Street Quarries in an area that is affectionately referred to by some as "Middle New Street". The majority of the specimens from this area are still labeled as being found at Upper New Street even though they were not found in the quarry itself. Nonetheless, this is one of the most famous Trap Rock quarries in New Jersey. This specimen is a superb Stilbite from this historic quarry. It hosts cream/tan, sharp, sheaves and blades of Stilbite including one beautiful "bow tie"-shaped aggregate measuring 5.3 cm long. Ex. Richard Kosnar Collection.

17.5 x 12 x 10.6 cm. This is a giant 10 x 8 x 7 cm crystal, perched on a natural stalk of stilbite matrix. It masses 1600 grams. The crystal is complete, and starkly geometric like a drawing from a textbook - rare in this size. It has a faint greenish hue to it, more evident in person and not exaggerated or even emphasized in the photo. Obtained directly in about 2005, from an Indian dealer.

7.5 x 5.5 x 2.8 cm. Stilbite from this deep and remote mine is actually quite rare. Very little has come out, mostly through collector Peter Lyckberg who descends with permission to get it on some fairly risky trips. This was collected in the 2500 foot levels of this famous iron mine, by Peter, and traded to Harold in the 1980s. It has a rich carpet of sharp crystals. Ex. Harold Urish Collection.

17.7 x 10.0 x 7.4 cm. A fine large cabinet Indian specimen from recent finds at Jalgaon, India. Gemmy and lustrous, pastel-green to colorless, blocky apophyllite crystals with steep pyramidal to chisel terminations are scattered on the bowl-like basalt vug covered with sugary, drusy quartz. The isolated apophyllite on one end is 6.5 cm and is doubly terminated. A couple of pearlescent, pastel-pink stilbite blades are a very nice accent, especially the one doubly terminated stilbite embedded in the apophyllite crystal.

12.9 x 9.7 x 7.0 cm. A beautiful cabinet piece of intricately terraced green apophyllites to 4.3 x 4 cm across, with cityscape-like terminations that are very uncommon and interesting. The crystals have a floral arrangement, very 3-dimensional, and accented by minor stilbite association. This specimen was one of only a few dozen pieces of size and quality from this pocket, which appeared about 4-5 years ago.

16.5 x 12.4 x 6.2 cm. An aesthetic, large cabinet Jalgaon, India combination specimen. Two striking, large clusters of lustrous, chocolaty heulandite fans dominate the top of this piece. Beautiful, pearlescent, salmon-pink stilbite blades and a 4.5 cm bowtie are richly and attractively scattered on the plate coated with very complimentary drusy, stalactitic chalcedony. The chocolate-colored heulandites are not that common and in combination with the pink stilbites and white chalcedony, this is truly a dramatic large specimen. Ex. Ed David Collection.

14.0 x 9.0 x 3.9 cm. A fine cabinet combination specimen from recent finds at Jalgaon, India. "Gems" of lustrous, transparent to translucent, brown-tinted, calcite rhombs, glassy, colorless, apophyllite crystals and a single, pearlescent, tan, bladed stilbite crystal cluster are aesthetically scattered on the elongated, bowl-shaped vug lined with contrasting, green celadonite. Many of the apophyllite crystals are perched on the calcite rhombs for added effect.

4.1 x 2.5 x 2.2 cm. A fine, fan-like cluster of lustrous, royal-blue cavansite blades set on basalt matrix covered with tiny, lustrous stilbite blades from the Wagholi Quarry of India. This is a superb miniature for its own aesthetics and for the crystallography shown: Bladed cavansite of this variety is far less common, than the cavansite balls. These are, also, large blades. About 1 in 1000 cavansites might have this more rare form showing textbook crystallography, as opposed to the radial spherical clusters you normally see.

15.5 x 10.4 x 8.5 cm. A fine, mounded, combination specimen from recent finds at Jalgaon, India. This specimen is capped by a 7.7 x 6.0 cm, double bowtie of pearlescent, pastel peach-pink stilbite blades. Gem-like, very glassy, blocky, pastel-green to colorless apophyllite crystals to 5.3 cm with modified corners and more stilbite crystals comprise the rest of this striking specimen. Some of the apophyllite crystal faces are beautifully striated, which is an excellent accent. Ex. George Feist Collection.
