An aesthetic spray of sharp, striated and flattened iridescent metallic stibnite blades. They throw off amazing flashes of blue and purple colors as the piece is turned in the light . Old classic material, not to be compared on the same keel to the far-more-common Chinese stuff! 4.7 x 3.3 x 3.1 cm
2.4 x 1.2 x 1.1 cm. A unique and unusual thumbnail quartz crystal from near Lovelock, Nevada. A sharp, glassy, transparent quartz crystal is filled with inclusions of white stibiconite needles and a few black stibnite needles. Ex. Dick Jones Collection.
5.9 x 0.8 x 0.4 cm. A classic, old-time, well-terminated stibnite crystal from the renowned Ichinokawa Mine of Japan. The complete all-around, metallic-bright crystal is nicely striated. Primary production from this famous locale was over by 1900. These stibnites were considered the world standard, until the recent Chinese finds.
13.0 x 4.0 x 2.0 cm. A fine cabinet stibnite spray from recent finds at the Wuning Mine of China. The stibnite blades have splendent, metallic-gray lustre, are beautifully and sharply striated, and both of the two, large crystals have nice, tapered terminations. A highlight of this excellent specimen is the strangely curved, second largest blade. Tectonic forces during crystal growth sometimes cause stibnite crystals to bend.
A SHARPLY terminated crystal, with a steep termination, is the highlight of the specimen. Japanese stibnites are extremely old (late 1800s-early 1900s) and get harder to obtain with every year. Most are elongate singles, and so I found this rare cluster very appealing as it displays more along the lines you'd want of more "matrixy" specimens. Ex. Scalisi Collection. 7.2 x 2.5 x 1.2 cm
3.9 x 1.1 x 0.6 cm. Lustrous, metallic-gray stibnite blades form a striking and aesthetic specimen from an extinct and very less well-known California antimony-mining locale - the Rip Van Winkle Claim in San Benito County. Ex. Jaime Bird Collection and the label with the piece has a 1973 date on it.
7.2 x 5.8 x 5.5 cm. Stout, highly lustrous and striated stibnite blades in intergrown, radiating sprays form a fine specimen from the Baia Sprie Mine of Romania. The bit of attached wall-rock matrix is a very nice accent, as most Romanian stibnites have no matrix. These stibnite blades are much broader, than typical Romanian stibnites and are far less common. Probably from the 1980s and not available today, except in recycled collections. Ex. William Hiss Collection.
34.5 x 2.6 x 0.8 cm. An impressive, giant stibnite "sword" from China. The large cabinet crystal has splendent, metallic-gray lustre, is beautifully and sharply striated, and has a nice, tapered termination. From recent finds at the Wuning Mine of China. Very highly representative for the species, locality and large size.
14.2 x 1.2 x 0.6 cm. A sharp single crystal of brilliantly lustrous stibnite, from the finds of around 2000-2001.
15.1 x 1.2 x 0.6 cm. A sharp single crystal of brilliantly lustrous stibnite, from the finds of around 2000-2001.
19.9 x 1.3 x 0.6 cm. A fine, highly lustrous, sharply striated, doubly terminated floater stibnite "sword" or "wand" from recent finds at the Wuning Mine of China. The terminations are sharp and tapering and this fine crystal has only a trivial amount of edge-wear. There is even a kink in the crystal near one termination. Ex. Marty Zinn Collection # 1842.
5.4 x 2.7 x 2.5 cm. A sharp, purple and blue cored phantom crystal measuring 2 cm, perched on a quartz point. Note the rare, acicular crystals of stibnite included inside.
3.2 x 2.8 x 2.6 cm. This is a very rare combination from the mine, with a deep purple fluorite (perfect and complete) richly included by acicular crystals of stibnite. It looks like silver hairs inside the fluorite. Minute bits of chalcopyrite are in association on the bottom of the piece. So far as I know, this is a unique association to this mine.
7.0 x 5.4 x 4.3 cm. This is a very rare combination from the mine, with purple fluorite cubes to 2 cm included by acicular crystals of stibnite. It looks like silver hairs inside the fluorite. So far as I know, this is a unique association to this mine. The crystals of fluorite are perched on top and form a sharp horizon line, with great sharpness.
30.7 x 2.8 x 2.7 cm. A huge stibnite "sword" from a new find in China. This metallic-bright, well-striated crystal has a pristine, sharp, coated termination and is nicely accented with smaller sidecar crystals on one side at the base.
