Look at this curvaceous beauty! Need we say more?
CAR-149 - Stibnite - $ 3000 SOLD Kisbanya, Romania large cabinet, 23.0 x 16.3 x 10.0 cm ex. Andrew Carnegie
A huge specimen of impressive, classically-formed stibnite spears to 5 cm rising from solid stibnite matrix. Considering its size and age, it has remarkably little damage (mostly peripheral) and displays very nicely even by our spoiled modern standards now that China is in the market. For Romania, it is REALLY good, though. One can easily imagine that, in Carnegie's time, collectors oohed and aaahed over such a large stibnite specimen as they only came from Japan and Romania.
D18 - Barite on Stibnite - $ 95 Thames, Coromandel Peninsula, North Island, New Zealand thumbnail, 2 x .8 x .5 cm ex. Marilyn Dodge
Save for India, you don’t often see one mineral coating another in such an aesthetic manner (the Fluorites on Stibnite from Thailand come to mind). The delicate Barites are very well-crystallized, have a pleasant yellow color, and they completely cover the Stibnite. This thumb has a lot going for it.
Den07-28 - Stibnite - $ 23500 Wuling Antimony Mine, Wuning Co., Jiujiang Prefecture, Jiangxi Province, China large cabinet, 21.2 x 11.5 x 6.2 cm
An exquisite cluster from mining about 3-4 years ago that have by all acknowledgements produced the finest stibnites in the world since the ancient Japanese finds, now long gone. These brilliantly metallic crystals are so sharp and lustrous, they look machined. This particular specimen is one of the more robust clusters I have seen, with broad, fat crystals to 1 inch wide, in an elegant spray. It has the most trivial damage possible for such a large and exposed piece, and none of any significance. I looked through thousands of these, much of the find, and this was one of my favorite picks at ANY price and size range. Also, most of these are too large, if they are of any quality. This one is an excellent size for most collections, not too large, not too spindly-looking.
MD-117885 - Calcite, Stibnite - - Archived Wuning Mine (Wuling Mine; Qingjiang Mine), Qingjiang, Wuning Co., Jiujiang Prefecture, Jiangxi Province, China small cabinet, 5.4 x 4.2 x 4.2 cm.
5.4 x 4.2 x 4.2 cm. These came onto the market a few years ago and quickly were snapped up and disappeared. This is a complete, amber-colored, striated crystal of calcite sitting on a plate of matrix with blades of stibnite - some of them poking into the calcite crystal.
MD-117941 - Stibnite - - Archived Wuning Mine (Wuling Mine; Qingjiang Mine), Qingjiang, Wuning Co., Jiujiang Prefecture, Jiangxi Province, China cabinet, 9.7 x 5.9 x 3.2 cm.
9.7 x 5.9 x 3.2 cm. A unique and amazing "arch" of stibnite crystals! Though contacted at the ends, this is such a far cry from the usual specimen that you just have to love it.
MD-119666 - Fluorite, Stibnite - - Archived Banpo Mine, Dushan Co., Qiannan Autonomous Prefecture, Guizhou Province, China cabinet, 10.0 x 6.0 x 3.2 cm.
10.0 x 6.0 x 3.2 cm. This specimen is a recent revisit from a find a couple of years back of small, gemmy fluorite crystals that grew on stibnite blades - really unique! Some of the fluorites are colorless, and others have a faint pastel purple tone.
MD-119707 - Stibnite - - Archived Guizhou Province, China cabinet, 11.4 x 7.2 x 4.4 cm.
11.4 x 7.2 x 4.4 cm. With all the stibnite that has come out of the Wuling Antimony Mine - the bright, elongated blades - it is easy to get jaded about Chinese stibnite. But these Guizhou pieces are TOTALLY different, and quite a bit rarer! They are spectacular to look at, arranged in porcupine sprays, as this one. This ball of crystals is perched on the edge of a ridge of matrix. The ball measures 5.5 cm across. The luster of these is closer to the Romanian ones than the Wuling ones, and some actually prefer this gunmetal luster.
MD-121127 - Stibnite - - Archived Breiner Mine (Brainer Mine), Baiut, Maramures Co., Romania cabinet, 9.7 x 7.7 x 6.5 cm.
9.7 x 7.7 x 6.5 cm. An aesthetic and classic tripod cluster of metallic-bright, gray stibnite blades from Romania. The 3-dimensional stibnite blades remind me of New York City skyscrapers, with the Empire State Building in the middle. The blades reach 3.8 cm and there is remarkably very little damage to this fine piece, along the periphery and just a couple of broken blades in the interior, very hard to see. The bit of calcite is a nice accent. Romanian stibnites were considered the epitome of stibnites, along with classic, old Japan stibnites and were fairly common from the 1970s to mid-1980s, just as Chinese stibnites are now. Ex. Karl Warning Collection, who purchased this fine piece at the New Jersey home of well-known mineral dealer, Herb Obodda, in September, 1985, just after his return from a European trip.
MD-121366 - Stibnite - - Archived Wuning Mine (Wuling Mine; Qingjiang Mine), Qingjiang, Wuning Co., Jiujiang Prefecture, Jiangxi Province, China large cabinet, 21.2 x 1.3 x 0.8 cm.
21.2 x 1.3 x 0.8 cm. From the find that produced the largest crystals of Stibnite seen in the modern era of mineral collecting!! This large cabinet size piece features an incredibly large, bright, intense metallic silver color, prismatic crystal of Stibnite. It looks like a glorious Stibnite "sword".
MD-137434 - Stibnite - - Archived Wuning Mine (Wuling Mine; Qingjiang Mine), Qingjiang, Wuning Co., Jiujiang Prefecture, Jiangxi Province, China large cabinet, 22.3 x 1.9 x 1.3 cm.
22.3 x 1.9 x 1.3 cm. A nearly nine-inch crystal of stibnite from China, with shiny-metallic luster and some little calcites attached. It is terminated on one end. Minimal edge-wear in a couple of spots.
MD-137554 - Stibiconite, Stibnite, Calcite - - Archived Catorce (Real de Catorce), Mun. de Catorce, San Luis PotosĂ, Mexico large cabinet, 16.1 x 4.4 x 4.1 cm.
16.1 x 4.4 x 4.1 cm. While these pseudormorphs are not the most beautiful things in the world, they are great Mexican classics. That is, IF you can find one of this quality - which is extremely rare. The stibnite looks to have completely altered to stibiconite. The very large crystal is complete, undamaged and un-contacted, and terminated. But, most importantly, there is this beautiful cluster of calcites around the bottom that makes this really unique and aesthetic, since the vast majority of these are just single crystals with no matrix or attachments.
MD-139573 - Stibnite, Calcite - - Archived Herja Mine (Kisbánya), Baia Mare (Nagybánya), Maramures Co., Romania small cabinet, 6.5 x 5.7 x 4.2 cm.
6.5 x 5.7 x 4.2 cm. A 3.0 cm spray of splendent stibnite blades is aesthetically set in a matrix of stalactitic calcite. The fascinating thing about this excellent piece is that the broken ends of the calcite stalactites reveal the single stibnite needle cores, which the calcite grew around. A revelation, certainly not a detraction. This showy piece is from the famous Herja Mine of Romania. The Maramures County mines are rumored to be closing soon.
MD-143031 - Stibnite - - Archived Wuning Mine (Wuling Mine; Qingjiang Mine), Qingjiang, Wuning Co., Jiujiang Prefecture, Jiangxi Province, China small cabinet, 7.2 x 1.7 x 1.3 cm.
7.2 x 1.7 x 1.3 cm. An outstanding and sublime cluster of perfect Stibnite blades. The luster is superb, and the longest of the crystals is 4.5 cm long. The aesthetics are out of this world. Ex. Charlie Key stock. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
