A sharp, translucent, deep lilac-colored kunzite crystal. The crystal is finely-terminated and shows textbook form. KUNZITE RARELY forms such sharp crystals, as opposed to pale green spodumene! Just a superb piece, for what it is! 5.3 x 4 x 1.4 cm

The crystal is over 2 inches tall and gemmy. This fine crystal has a sharp, chisel termination of vivid, lilac kunzite color grading downward into a pleasing pastel-yellow.

Spodumene (Var: Kunzite) from Mawi pegmatite, Laghman (Lagman; Nuristan) Province, Afghanistan [db_pics/mdpics/MD-191611a.jpg]

12.4 x 2.8 x 1.9 cm. A most unusual spodumene specimen for both the geometry and the subtle coloration. The geometry is interesting, for the growth offset so clearly visible, where during growth the crystal seems to have broken, shifted over 1.5 cm, and started growing again in the same vertical plane as if nothing had happened - with the bottom annealing to the old stub and "re-healing" to make a complete crystal again over time. The pink color is subtle, varying in intensity depending on the light source.

10.1 x 4.5 x 2.3 cm. This is an outstanding visual piece but also happens to be a highly important kunzite specimen that is of superb color and cutting quality, considered by many to be among the finest kunzite crystals recovered and surviving in specimen form from this famous mining district. Weighs 147 grams. This specimen was kept by mine owner Norm Dawson when he found it in a famous pocket of 12 kilos of highest-quality kunzite, in 1968 or so. It was bought from Dawson by Bill, before he passed away. This district, notably, is the TYPE LOCALITY for Kunzite, where it was identified as a new gemstone by George Frederick Kunz in 1903: Kunz, George Frederick (1903), On a new lilac-colored spodumene San Diego County, California: Am.Jour. Sci., 4th. series: 16: 264-267; ...(abstract): Science, new series: 18: 280 (1903). Ex. Pala International/William Larson Collection.

13.1 x 5.4 x 2.0 cm. A very large, rare spodumene crystal from the main dike of the Pala Chief Mine, according to Bill dated sometime before 1960. It is large, complete, and has a pleasing faint green color in person. This is an amazing piece from San Diego County, large and gemmy and quite reflective in person from its many facets. Ex. Pala International/William Larson Collection.

Spodumene (Var: Kunzite), Quartz from Pala District, San Diego Co., California, USA [db_pics/mdpics/MD-192104a.jpg]

10.3 x 5.4 x 5.3 cm. An unusual specimen that Bill says is a very old piece out of a collection labeled only as "Pala". The doubly-terminated kunzite hangs dramatically from a quartz termination, and the quartz itself is also doubly-terminated. Ex. Pala International/William Larson Collection.
