A beautiful, gemmy and lustrous, doubly-terminated, pastel-pink kunzite crystal from the famous Pala Chief Mine of California. The C-axis termination photos highlight the beautiful, pink color. This came out of Ed Swoboda''s garage storage last year. 18 grams. 3.5 x 2.2 x 1.4 cm
This is a complete floater gem crystal of kunzite, of good size, with cleavage on one side only - the other sides are the natural faces. The crystal shows fine transparency from top to bottom, with light lilac color. This excellent crystal weighs 50 grams. 7.3 x 4 x 0.6cm
Of all the colors of Afghani Spodumene, green is probably the most difficult to obtain. Recently, Ive seen these crystals marketed as "Hiddenite" which is NOT correct as true Hiddenite is Chromium-bearing and these crystals, despite the color similarity to Hiddenite are simply just green Spodumene. Nonetheless, this is still an impressive gem crystal of a hard to find color from what is probably the most well known locality in the world for Spodumene crystals. This crystal is very gemmy, with good luster and it is actually doubly-terminated ! It is not contacted, but rather recrystallized on the back side making it essentially a floater crystal. 6.7 x 2.6 x 1.7cm
This is a large, doubly-terminated floater crystal of kunzite, GEMMY from top to bottom, complete all around! It features interesting "cut-glass" type modifications on the faces. The color is a nice light lilac. This fine and impressive gem crystal weighs 75 grams. 13.8 x 2.7 x 1.1cm
A GEMMY, super-sharp, beautifully terminated kunzite crystal – nice and thick, with pretty zoning of the pink color inside. Terminations of this quality are most unusual! 5 x 2.4 x 1.5 cm
A GORGEOUS, VERY GEMMY, pristine, doubly terminated lilac kunzite crystal from the famous Pala Chief Mine of California. The lilac color on this one is outstanding and this is cutting-grade material, throughout, dating probably to the Kunz era of gem exploration in teh county in the early 1900s or to remining in the 1940s. The bottom termination is contacted, flat, but complete. It stands on its own, so this works out nicely! Note the very interesting, complex and multifaceted terminations on this piece and the two C-axis shots really show the intense lilac color. Any white spots you see ar ereflections as the color is uniform in person. Ex Bill Smith Collection. weight is hefty at 50 grams. 4.6 x 2.8 x 2.4 cm
From one of the most classic and productive regions in the world to date for gem quality pink Spodumene. This dual crystal has good form, great gemmy pink and purple trichroic crystal with some minor Quartz at the termination. There are a few dings around the specimen, but the color and sheer gem quality make for an attractive overall specimen. 7.5 x 2.8 x 2.1cm
This is a very well formed Kunzite crystal with very sharp, glassy faces, superb form, and an attractive soft pinky-yellow color. It is strongly pleochroic as you can see when viewed down the "c" axis. The crystal is about 85% gem quality and has a great non-etched termination. A wonderful example of a nearly textbook quality Kunzite crystal. 6.2 x 1.8 x 1.5cm
Do not let the pretty good availability of Afghan kunzites jade you to the value of a fine California one! This doubly-terminated GEM-CLEAR crystal from the Elizabeth R. Mine (just north of the Pala Chief in San Diego Co) has superb saturated lilac color. It is complete on the front side, with the back being a cleavage face. One of the terminations shows beautiful stepped growth. This fine crystal weighs 32 grams. 7.6 x 2.2 x 1.5cm
From one of the most classic and productive regions in the world to date for gem quality pink Spodumene. This very gemmy, lustrous, sharp crystal has good form, and excellent pink and purple trichroism. The piece is in good shape save a contact towards the bottom of the crystal. It''s a very gemmy crystal for the size and has a very attractive "steep" termination. 5.8 x 3.5 x 2.2 cm
Rarely is Spodumene seen in twinned crystals, but they do exist. This specimen is a very good example of a twinned Spodumene with a distinct twinning plane visible through the length of the crystal. The crystal is quite gemmy and has a very attractive and uncommon greenish-yellow color. There is a contact on the termination, but the crystal is rather sharp, and the prism has excellent luster. A very nice twinned gem crystal from what is probably the premier locality for Spodumene in the world. 9.5 x 1.8 x 1.8 cm
A crystal of gemmy spodumene, naturally etched into a weird shape, and terminated on both ends. They crystal is a prettier yellow in person! Weighs 57 grams. 10.2 x 2.5 x 1.7cm
An UNUSUAL and SHOWY of pink lepidolite pseudomorphing spodumene crystals from the Elizabeth R. Mine of San Diego County, California. Ex Chris Korpi Collection. An uncommon piece for the San Diego County pegmatite collector. 9.7 x 9.7 x 3.9 cm
This facetable, lustrous, light yellow, gem crystal, displays beautiful etch pits over a large portion of the crystal that create innumerable reflections of light. It is large, but nearly entirely gem quality! This is just a lovely spodumene gem crystal which can be viewed in any direction. It weighs in at 261 gram. Such a finely-terminated spod from Brazil is unusual to get ahold of, and especially with a sharp termination. Most of them tend to form in pockets that have long since been hit by solutions that etch and dissolve the crystals, and the result is very few large spodumenes from Brazil have the sharp form we normally associate now with Afghani pieces. In person this is a daiquiri-green color like pastel ice cream, and is MUCH MORE LUSTROUS and GLASSY IN PERSON. 15.7 x 4.1 x 1.9 cm
A large, gemmy crystal of kunzite, terminated on one end, with FINE lilac color! This big, fine crystal weighs 93 grams. 15.2 x 2.7 x 0.9 cm
