den07-07 - Galena (skeletal) with Chalcopyrite on Sphalerite - $ 200 SOLD 19th of September Mine, Madan, Rhodope Mtns., Bulgaria miniature, 3.8 x 2.9 x 1.3 cm
A sharp 9mm cube, hoppered throughout, perched on chalcopyrite! As my friend John Veevaert found out and reported in his show report elsewhere, "it was mentioned to me that these were actually found about 20 years ago and ignored until someone in Bulgaria figured out how to remove the encasing clay without damaging the delicate features of these remarkable specimens. They are just absolutely incredible and easily the most impressive new thing here at the show. ".

This specimen is composed of several, doubly terminated, blocky, splendent, black crystals, to 5.0 cm across, of sphalerite. The growth is reminiscent of a stalactite. Few trivial dings, only, and almost pristine. This is about the highest calibre you can find for the species at this mine with HUGE and well-formed crystals that are so black, they are almos tcolorful.

elm13 - Fluorite on Sphalerite - $ 400 SOLD Elmwood Mine, Carthage, Smith County, Tennessee, USA miniature, 5.2 x 4.8 x 4.7 cm
SUPER Miniature! Two nearly equant, translucent, rich, lavender colored crystals of fluorite, to 2.5 cm across are perched on crystals of splendent, black, sphalerite. There is one bruise on the center edge of the large fluorite, but it does not affect the visual quality of the piece (though in my mind, I halved the price as a result).
elm14 - Fluorite on Sphalerite - $ 450 SOLD Elmwood Mine, Smith County, Carthage, Tennessee, USA small cabinet, 6.7 x 6.0 x 4.4 cm
Several cubes of translucent, pastel purple fluorite, to 3.0 cm across, are perched on sphalerite with orange highlights. The specimen is nearly pristine.
elm16 - Fluorite on Sphalerite - $ 250 SOLD Elmwood Mine, Smith County, Carthage, Tennessee, USA small cabinet, 7.0 x 6.6 x 5.8 cm
A large, single crystal of translucent, rich purple, measuring 4.5 cm across sits on a matrix of splendent sphalerite with orange highlights. There is very minor contact/corner cleave on the back side near the matrix, if you sit the piece up with the sphalerite on the bottom; or the partial corner is rather on the bottom as shown here. Either way, it does not detract too much from the display options, and the piece is quite nice for the price and size range.
elm17 - Fluorite on Sphalerite - $ 750 SOLD Elmwood Mine, Carthage, Smith County, Tennessee, USA small cabinet, 9.1 x 8.0 x 5.3 cm
A matrix of translucent, red-flecked, sphalerite with crystals to .7 cm across, is the host for two, large, translucent, pastel purple cubes of fluorite, to 4.2 cm across. The fluorite crystals have varying luster and the large crystal even has a few colorless calcite crystal on it that reach .4 cm across. The fluorites are very interesting and unusual in that they are so colorless - few fluorites from this locality are not some shade of deeper purple. Dramatic large piece, I think!

A plate of intergrown, splendent, black, sphalerite is the matrix for an equant, translucent, doubly-terminated fluorite crystal measuring 4.2 cm across. A front edge has minor chipping about 1 cm long and there is a tiny contact on the back side, hence the low price.
