8.0 x 1.4 x 1.0 cm. When it comes to Aquamarine, Pakistan is the most productive country for specimens in the modern age of mineral collecting. Some of the very finest quality Aquamarine specimens come from the various pegmatites in the Pakistani Himalayas, especially in the Shigar Valley. This crystal is a very good quality, sharp, gem quality "pencil" with good glassy luster and a soft blue color. A few accenting Muscovite crystals and one red Spessartine crystal make for a great association specimen from this world famous locality.

Spessartine, Muscovite, Albite from Shengus (Shingus), Haramosh Mts., Skardu District, Baltistan, Northern Areas, Pakistan [db_pics/mdpics/MD-251207b.jpg]

4.6 x 4.0 x 2.6 cm. A sculptural and aesthetic combination specimen from recent finds in Pakistan. The V-shaped albite crystal matrix is beautifully accented with gemmy, cherry-red spessartine crystals. The coup de grace of this specimen, though, is the centrally located pearlescent, muscovite "sail" with the two, gorgeous, isolated spessartines and the spessartine cluster at the base of the muscovite blade. Classic combination material from Shengus.

4.7 x 2.5 x 2.3 cm. An excellent single Spessartine Garnet on matrix. The crystal has classic form, deep red color, very good luster, and is 1.8 cm across. Very good aesthetics. One of the best Spessartines I have seen from Aggeneys. Ex. Charlie Key.

9.4 x 5.4 x 4.2 cm. Classic Tongbei - Smoky Quartz crystals generously covered with gemmy Spessartine Garnets. The largest Smoky Quartz is 2.5 cm in size, and all have good color and luster. The beautiful Garnets are gemmy, deep orange, and have the superb, striated luster that makes them so special. An excellent, aesthetic specimen. Ex. Charlie Key.

11.6 x 9.1 x 7.7 cm. A lovely muted-red color, gemmy, rather lustrous group of modified/etched trapezohedral Spessartine crystals sit atop porous, etched, lustrous white blocky crystals of Albite with minor Muscovite. The piece is very three dimensional showing beautiful overall form and aesthetic quality.

Spessartine from Navegadora Mine (Navegador Mine; Orozimbo Mine), Penha do Norte, Conselheiro Pena, Doce valley, Minas Gerais, Southeast Region, Brazil [db_pics/mdpics/MD-253937a.jpg]

4.5 x 3.5 x 3.1 cm. The recent discovery of these highly etched but completely terminated spessartine garnets created quite a stir, and you can see why. The sculptural aesthetics, lustre and clarity are superb, which are complemented by the lovely wine-red color. This is an excellent example of this recent find. It is even better in person. The stepped patterns on this particular piece are amazing. Weighs 87 grams.

5.5 x 5.0 x 4.1 cm. The recent discovery of these highly etched but completely terminated spessartine garnets created quite a stir. The sculptural aesthetics, lustre and clarity are superb, which are complemented by the lovely wine-red color. It is safe to say these have become very sought-after, and this is an excellent example of this recent find. The stepped patterns on this particular piece are amazing. Very high quality and larger than most spessartines from this find. Weighs 204 grams.

3.0 x 2.7 x 1.9 cm. A very sharp, complete, pristine, 1.3-cm garnet perched on quartz. The crystal is one of the sharpest I have seen. In person, moderate gemminess is present. Ex. Laura and Stevia Thompson Collection.

Spessartine from Nagar (Nagir), Hunza Valley, Gilgit District, Northern Areas, Pakistan [db_pics/mdpics/MD-257455a.jpg]

3.3 x 1.5 x 1.2 cm. A bizarre specimen, indeed. I recall when they came out and somebody had to analyze them to prove they were not the world's best chondrodites. This elongated garnet with odd form is a doubly-terminated floater, nearly pristine and complete all around. Ex. Laura and Stevia Thompson, and Dr. Eugene Meieran Collections.

Spessartine from Haramosh Mts., Skardu District, Baltistan, Northern Areas, Pakistan [db_pics/mdpics/MD-257456a.jpg]

2.0 x 2.0 x 1.6 cm. A stunning, gem orange spessartine crystal measuring 1.6 cm across, perched with smaller crystals on a bit of quartz - overall a superb thumbnail. Wayne Thompson had never cleaned this. It still has pocket clay attached, as you can see, and which I have left on for contrast. Ex. Laura and Stevia Thompson Collection.

Beryl (Var: Aquamarine), Spessartine, Microlite from Shengus (Shingus), Haramosh Mts., Skardu District, Baltistan, Northern Areas, Pakistan [db_pics/mdpics/MD-257470a.jpg]

3.8 x 1.1 x 0.7 cm. The little orange spessartine at base gives this away as Shengus, or from the quality of the aquamarine I would think it was Shigar. Interestingly, the pristine aquamarine crystal has a nice accent: a 3mm twinned microlite hanging off the side. Ex. Laura and Stevia Thompson Collection.

Beryl (Var: Aquamarine), Spessartine from Shengus (Shingus), Haramosh Mts., Skardu District, Baltistan, Northern Areas, Pakistan [db_pics/mdpics/MD-257492a.jpg]

3.9 x 1.4 x 1.3 cm. A totally gem aquamarine, with a fine accent of spessartine at the base. Some pocket clay remains atop. I chose to leave it as a highlight to the form at the termination, which otherwise is hard to photograph as it is so gemmy and clear. Ex. Laura and Stevia Thompson Collection.

2.7 x 1.6 x 1.3 cm. A rare matrix thumbnail, just elegant, with the elongated spessartine crystal perched on a small quartz point. Most of these are floaters, without matrix. Ex. Laura and Stevia Thompson Collection.
