7.2 x 5.2 x 3.9 cm. A pretty specimen of lavender-to-pink botryoidal smithsonite, with some bluish tones, from the older mining at the Choix works. This specimen has a fine pearly luster!

7.0 x 5.5 x 3.5 cm. A dove-grey one, with translucent crystals that have all kinds of flash! The crystals here are larger, flattened rhombs that are actually rather gemmy. Good example of this style (even if color-challenged). Ex. Rob Smith Collection.

Smithsonite (Var: Cadmian Smithsonite) from Tsumeb Mine (Tsumcorp Mine), Tsumeb, Otjikoto (Oshikoto) Region, Namibia [db_pics/mdpics/MD-142352b.jpg]

15.8 x 13.4 x 3.9 cm. A specimen of cadmium-rich smithsonite, but very different! For one thing, it is a BIG specimen. But more importantly - you can see that only the CORES of the crystals have the orangey color indicating the cadmium content which turns them yellow or orange. The solution in the pocket changed during the growth of the crystals, the cadmium which gave the crystals their color was no longer there, and so the orange cores were wrapped in almost colorless smithsonite! A rich and fascinating specimen from a very famous mine! Ex. Rob Smith collection.

6.6 x 5.3 x 1.8 cm. Not from the recent finds from re-mining at Choix, but from the earlier finds - a pretty specimen of pastel-pink to light lavender smithsonite of botryoidal form, with an excellent shimmering luster.

Smithsonite from Tsumeb Mine (Tsumcorp Mine), Tsumeb, Otjikoto (Oshikoto) Region, Namibia [db_pics/mdpics/MD-145038a.jpg]

11 x 8.5 x 6.5 cm. From the collection of Rob Smith, a large plate of finely-formed, translucent smithsonite crystals, with a yellow-tan color. In some places you can see complex compound crystals. The luster is somewhere between silky and vitreous. This is an unusual color for a Tsumeb smithsonite, and probably results from cadmium (making it cadmian smithsonite). A big, rich smithsonite from perhaps the world’s greatest mineral locality!

6.8 x 5.8 x 3.3 cm. This is a fine pink botryoidal smithsonite from the original smithsonite finds at Choix, not the ones of the past few years. It is accompanied by an old Gary Hansen label. As you can see, it has wonderful color, but most of all, a great shimmering luster. Henry Minot specimen.

9.6 x 6.5 x 5.9 cm. The camera did a good job of capturing this rare and very unusual color of this cuprian smithsonite from Tsumeb. This is a shallow vug full of the silky crystals, mint-green with a hint of blue - really pretty and again, rare!

8.7 x 8.0 x 3.8 cm. A sculptural, mitten-like Tsumeb specimen RICHLY covered with glassy, colorless and flattened smithsonite rhombs. This is an unusually fine specimen of this Tsumeb smithsonite varietal and is TOTALLY PRISTINE, even along the edges. Ex. George Elling Collection.

9.0 x 5.7 x 3.7 cm. Lustrous botryoids of bladed, reddish-brown smithsonite form an aesthetic, old-time specimen from the Tri-State District of Missouri. This is a solid, two-sided crust of smithsonite and the botryoids on the backside are coated with yellow-tan greenockite. Bruising on some of the botryoids on the front are noted, but are really not very detracting on this fine old-timer, which comes from an UNCOMMON Joplin locality - the Gobbler Mine. Ex. George Elling Collection.

4.1 x 3.7 x 3.5 cm. This smithsonite is from the older finds at Choix (not the ones of the past couple of years), and comes with a Gary Hansen label. It is essentially a knob covered all the way around with pearly, lavender/pink smithsonite. Super luster, wonderful color and no damage all the way around. 1970s material.

Smithsonite (Var: Cobaltoan Smithsonite) from Tsumeb Mine (Tsumcorp Mine), Tsumeb, Otjikoto (Oshikoto) Region, Namibia [db_pics/mdpics/MD-148293a.jpg]

6.1 x 5.0 x 2.8 cm. An excellent and showy Tsumeb specimen. The fan-shaped, right-angled specimen is covered with CHATOYANT, pastel grayish-pink, cobaltoan smithsonite rhombs. The base is actually a two-sided crust. I have seen very few chatoyant Tsumeb smithsonites. Essentially pristine, with only very minimal periphery bruising. Ex. Rob Smith Collection.

5.8 x 4.2 x 3.1 cm. A RARE, UNUSUAL and SHOWY Tsumeb combination specimen of glassy, pink, cobaltoan smithsonite crystals filling a well-placed vug lined by superbly contrasting green cuprian adamite crystals and surrounded by a mass of the same! I have never seen such a combination from Tsumeb. The back shows the cuprian adamite veins. The color contrast is startling. Ex. Rob Smith Collection.

6.7 x 5.1 x 3.3 cm. This is an old-timer botryoidal smithsonite from Choix with just the most unusual color and luster - an opaque, faint pastel pink rather than the usual translucent and slightly deeper pink - really different and very subtle and pretty.

21 x 15 x 11 cm. Without a doubt, the Kelly Mine in New Mexico is the world''s single greatest locality for botryoidal and rice-grain Smithsonite. While the turquoise-blue Smithsonite is the best-known, the much more uncommon silvery-white Smithsonite is equally cherished and highly sought-after by aficionados of the variety here. This LARGE CABINET piece has eight (count them, 8!) individual pockets that range from shallow to deep, large to medium - each containing a rich layer of well-formed superbly lustrous Smithsonite.

4.7 x 4.6 x 2.6 cm. Kelly Mine smithsonite has gone from being fairly easy to find 20 years ago to being really HARD to find in good specimens, and quite expensive. Its distinctive blue-green color and sheen are just not matched by any others worldwide. This specimen has both fine color and a beautiful shimmering luster.
