9.3 x 6.3 x 4.3 cm. An unusual smithsonite from the Kelly Mine, in that it features small botryoidal clusters isolated on contrasting matrix rather than the usual form of "mostly smithsonite" with little matrix. It is VERY lustrous, and has the classic "Kelly blue" color.
7.1 x 5.5 x 3.3 cm. A SUPERB, gemmy rind of botryoidal, kelly blue-green smithsonite on silicified limestone from the famous Kelly Mine of New Mexico. This is classic material with nice 3-dimensionality.
7.5 x 7.0 x 5.8 cm. A SUPERB, 3-dimensional specimen of a rind of super-lustrous and bright, bubble-gum pink, botryoidal smithsonite on matrix from Choix, Sinaloa, Mexico. The side views are fascinating as they show the smithsonite layering and how the matrix has been partially etched away! This is VERY HIGH quality, older and very uncommon material from the 1970s, as it was formerly in the collection of Dr. Gary Hansen.
12.9 x 5.4 x 3.4 cm. The yellow-olive color of this large, very rich Tsumeb smithsonite indicates its cadmium-rich chemistry. This is a dense cluster of translucent rhombs, with good luster flashing off the faces. Ex. Rob Smith collection.
8.9 x 6.3 x 5.4 cm. This is a large and BEAUTIFUL specimen of the prized cuprian variety of smithsonite from Tsumeb! Two sides of this chunk of matrix are completely covered with sparkly, bright pea-green crystals - so they wrap around the specimen and give it dimensionality, rather than being a simple plate. Another Rob Smith Tsumeb piece.
5.9 x 5.7 x 5.1 cm. From the original finds of smithsonite at Choix, not the more recent ones from re-mining there - a 3-dimensional specimen that has an intense pearly luster, and color tones that shift from pink to pastel lavender.
7.2 x 5.3 x 2.8 cm. A beautiful, 3-dimensional Tsumeb plate covered with very glassy and lustrous, pastel yellowish-green smithsonite rhombs on quartz-rich matrix. An excellent and showy Tsumeb smithsonite with uncommon color. Ex. George Elling Collection.
4.6 x 3.1 x 2.4 cm. Pink smithsonite, with intense color. Ex. Charlie Key.
2.2 x 2.2 x 0.9 cm. Sharp crystals to 1 cm make up this translucent plate of the rare cadmian-rich smithsonite varietal, known at its best from Tsumeb - though very rare. Ex. Charlie Key stock.
4.0 x 2.7 x 1.4 cm. A brilliantly sparkling specimen we call "green sugar" - if you saw this in person, you would agree it’s about the sparkliest smithsonite you could imagine. In its form, made up of intergrown stalactites, it is also somewhat elegant in our opinion. Complete on both sides save only a tiny contact spot, it’s a beautiful miniature of this rare habit of copper-rich smithsonite. Ex. Charlie Key stock.
6.8 x 4.6 x 3.7 cm. SHARP, really lustrous crystals of slightly pink cobaltoan smithsonite sit on matrix here, showing off the razor sharp form you rarely see in such quality. A small 1 cm cerussite twin sits among them. Really quite a nice smithsonite of the style! Ex. Charlie Key stock. Now Joseph Polityka collection.
8.2 x 5.7 x 3.6 cm. A smithsonite with just a hint of color, to these gemmy and transparent crystals. Probably slightly cobaltoan judging by the sharp crystallography, matrix association, and slight hint of pink. Crystals to 8mm. Ex. Charlie Key stock.
12.5 x 8.6 x 5.2 cm. A very unusual specimen! This piece is hefty, large, and complete all around and on both sides. It seems to show a second generation of pearly white smithsonite over an older generation of cuprian smithsonite with a green-olive color. The piece has great lustre, and is lustrous and polished-looking in a waxy sort of nature, all around. It’s just plain weird....not seen another like it. Ex. Charlie Key stock.
7.2 x 5.5 x 2.3 cm. A classic and very fine kelly-blue smithsonite crust from the famous Kelly Mine. The botryoids are highly lustrous and translucent, as the photos show. The crust is greener on the back. This is carving/lapidary grade and sells by the gram in the gem trade! Ex. Brent Lockhart Collection.
8.9 x 7.1 x 4.9 cm. You can tell from the intense blue-green color and translucency that this is from the Choix. It has a wonderful "Kelly Mine" quality to it, though more on the green side than Kelly pieces. A fine shimmering luster, and in the middle, a patch of "rice grain" smithsonite adds interest.
