This BIG, RICH Tsumeb smithsonite specimen, which was priced at $1500, is notable not only for its dense coverage of gemmy smithsonite crystals, but also for the inclusions of an unidentified yellow mineral that gives it a pretty two-hued appearance (probably beaverite). The plate is not boring and flat, but quite 3-dimensional, built up in clusters of varying depths. From teh noted collection of South African dealer Rob Smith 13.8 x 10.1 x 7.6cm
A gorgeous plate of lustrous, velvety, dove-gray botryoidal smithsonite from this classic old mine! This specimen came with an old Prosper Williams label – it has been around for some time. The pics give it a slightly reddish tint, which it does not have in person – it is a pure and very beautiful velvety gray color. 8.5 x 6.1 x 3 cm
A very showy and rich specimen of botryoidal, yellow, smithsonite on crystallized purple and massive fluorite from the famous Sheshodonnell East Mine, Carron, The Burren, County Clare, Ireland. A bit of periphery damage is insignificant as it displays so nicely and colorfully. This fine piece is the second of three pieces recently collected from the dumps produced by old workings (the specimen is ca. 150 years old) 5.8 x 5.5 x 3.5 cm
A specimen of the prized apple-green smithsonite from the classic 79 Mine, with a small fan of calcite crystals in the middle. 5.4 x 4.4 x 1.9cm
Ok, it is no competition for a Kelly Mine or Choix smithsonite, but this IS classic material, from Laurium, and very scarce on the market. 7.1 x 7.1 x 4.8cm
Three lustrous and translucent pastel-pink smithsonite rhombs to 1.3 cm aesthetically perched on matrix. 3.5 x 2.9 x 2.2 cm
Shimmering, pearly pink smithsonite, a THICK crust on the matrix – from the classic Choix locality. 5.5 x 4 x 2.5 cm
A very showy and rich specimen of botryoidal, yellow, smithsonite on massive fluorite from the famous Sheshodonnell East Mine, Carron, The Burren, County Clare, Ireland. A bit of edge wear is negligible, as it displays so nicely and colorfully. This fine piece is the third and last of three pieces. 7.0 x 4.5 x 2.7 cm
A showy and excellent rounded cluster of lustrous, translucent and striated, tan smithsonite scalenohedrons from Tsumeb. Trivial periphery damage to this fine toenail. Ex Ed Ruggiero Collection, who purchased this piece from Pala Properties on December 29, 1975. Ed stopped collecting in 1987 and his collection represents a wonderful snapshot of available material during the 1960s, 70s and 80s. 3.5 x 2.7 x 2.2 cm
7.0 x 3.8 x 1.6 cm. A fine and extremely rich "turkey fat" smithsonite from the Philadelphia Mine of Arkansas. Intensely yellow, cadmium-rich, smithsonite pseudomorphs after curved, saddle-shaped, dolomite crystals cover the siliceous limestone matrix plate. Highly representative of the species and locale.
An AMAZING, two-sided CABINET crust of sparkly, drusy, green cuprian smithsonite from Tsumeb. One side features the unique smithsonite "ring" and the sculptural vuggyness of the specimen. The other side shows that the "finger" in the "ring", is in fact, a hollow smithsonite stalactite! The scattered edgewear is certainly not a detraction to this marvelous Tsumeb piece. Ex David Travis Collection. 10.2 x 5.0 x 3.2 cm
Intrepid miners have gone back into the old works at the classic Choix locality and begun pulling out a limited number of smithsonite specimens in gorgeous shades of pink, blue and lavender! This one is has a superb pearly luster and wonderful pastel pink color - it absolutely shimmers! it is at least as pretty as a blue Kelly Mine specimen, and you know what those go for these days. . . 6.3 x 5.5 x 2.8 cm
A showy and aesthetic specimen of lustrous, translucent, zoned, lavender mangansmithsonite rhombs to 9 mm very nicely perched on matrix from Tsumeb. The major crystals are pristine. Mangansmithsonite is one of the rarer smithsonite varietals from Tsumeb and this is a nice one. 3.3 x 2.8 x 2.1 cm
This very large matrix is COVERED with botryoidal lavender smithsonite, from the new mining at the classic old Choix works! This is one of the richest and most substantial specimens I have seen from the mine, with cave-like openings and very sculptural form. Major piece of great beauty, and a good anchor for any showcase 22.5 x 20.5 x 15.5 cm
A large and gorgeous smithsonite specimen from new mining in Mexico! Intrepid miners have gone back into the old works at the classic Choix locality and begun pulling out a limited number of smithsonite specimens in shades of pink, blue and lavender. This is a large, rolling matrix covered with extrmely lustrous, shimmering botryoidal pink smithsonite. 8.3 x 8.1 x 5.4 cm
