Mostly silver, with some calcite, and quite thick and heavy, this rich specimen (which came out of the Don Belsher Collection) is a mass of intricate wire silver, from the classic locality for this material. It is basically a dense mass of completely crystallized silver! Mined in Batopilas in 1960s. 6.1 x 4.9 x 2.1cm
27.5 x 14.8 x 4.0 cm. This is simply a very large, single natural leaf formation of silver. It is something you almost never see in such size, and probably came out of these rich lodes in their early days. From any location, it’s a uniquely large silver specimen for this style of silver formation. I did send it to the Seaman Museum to get confirmation of the locality (and it is surely Canadian because there is some attached cobaltite and nickeline; and not Michigan).
Overall, the new silver find in China has consisted in a lot of wimpy wires for which the Chinese are asking high prices. I thought this specimen was exceptional – a really SUBSTANTIAL silver, reminiscent of Kongsberg or German specimens, with graceful form – at about a third the price of one from those localities! 3 x 2.75 x 1.2 cm
An UNUSUALLY SCULPTURAL, old-time Michigan piece of flattened, tarnished silver on massive copper in conglomerate from one of the conglomerate lodes of the famous Keweenaw Peninsula. Ex Richard Hauck Collection. 5.5 x 4.9 x 4.2 cm
An aesthetic thumbnail sculpture of lustrous, spinel-twinned silver crystals on a bit of matrix from the famous Keweenaw Peninsula of Michigan. 2.3 x 1.5 x 0.9 cm
A lustrous, 1.5 cm silver crystal with rounded edges aesthetically perched on quartz-rich matrix with a band of dendritic copper crystals from Houghton County, Michigan. A classic, old-time Copper Country piece. 2.7 x 2.1 x 1.5 cm
An INCREDIBLY rich old German silver specimen, basically a thick PILE of hundreds of fine crystallized silver feathers! Look at this specimen through a loupe and I guarantee you that it will blow your mind – the beauty and delicate form of these myriad crystals, like silver snowflakes! They look more delicate than they are in person, by the way. It is quite sturdy enough to display and is a solid mass of such intricacy. From the classic Pohla locality. 7.5 x 4.5 x 3.6 cm
An EXTREMELY RICH, old-time and sculptural silver-copper "halfbreed" from the famous Keweenaw Peninsula of Michigan. Most halfbreeds are less much less than 50% silver, but this hefty piece is at least 75% silver and weighs 49 grams. This fine piece was formally in the collection of George Robinson, currently curator of the Seamann Mineral Museum at Michigan Tech. This is the second and last "halfbreed" piece, that we obtained from George Robinson. It is also the MUCH MORE sculptural of the two. 5.2 x 3.1 x 1.7 cm
An excellent, showy, old-time and RARE specimen of lustrous to matte-finish, silver leaves richly covering quartz-rich matrix from the famous Tintic Standard Mine of Utah. The CLOTH label is glued to the back. Silver is VERY UNCOMMON from the Tintic Standard and this is a VERY FINE piece. Ex Richard Hauck Collection. 7.2 x 6.7 x 3.8 cm
An SHOWY, EXCELLENT and rich wire silver specimen from the famous Silver Miller Mine at Cobalt, Canada. The front shows a 1.9 cm vug in matrix lined with thick silver wires. A solid vein of tiny silver wires occupies a whole corner on the back. Ex Edna Doughty and Richark Hauck Collections. 5.5 x 4.7 x 1.7 cm
An AESTHETIC, lustrous and pristine, multi-faceted, bright copper-in-calcite scalenohedron on a bit of matrix with green epidote and a very narrow seam with a stray, tiny silver wire or two from the famous Keweenaw Peninsula of Michigan. A different perspective to this beautiful, old-time piece is given with each bit of rotation. Ex Richard Hauck Collection. 3.4 x 2.7 x 2.3 cm
A GORGEOUS and AESTHETIC nest of feather-like, elongated, spinel-twinned silver crystals, with a nice patina, set on calcite from the famous Batopilas District of Mexico. The longest silver crystal is 1.8 cm. Ex Sam Nasser Collection 3.5 x 2.6 x 1.6 cm
A rich, old-time, showy specimen of two, tiny wire silver nests sitting at the base of a rich mass of acanthite on milky quartz from the famous Bulldog Mountain Mine at Creede, Colorado. Ex Richard Hauck Collection. 4.5 x 3.5 x 2.5 cm
An EXQUISITE feather of spinel-twinned silver crystals with an outstanding patina set on and in limestone matrix from the famed New Nevada Mine at Batopilas, Mexico. 2.8 x 1.7 x 0.7 cm
A showy, old-time specimen of a highly lustrous, copper in calcite scalenohedron on matrix with silver, epidote and prehnite. A portion of the calcite crystal termination is cleaved and contacted, but this remains a highly representative Copper Country classic combo piece. Ex Richard Hauck Collection. 6.2 x 4.3 x 3.0 cm
