Beautiful and very aesthetic group of thick silver wires with a deep rich coppery-silver color. Such good color, luster, and form make this a very attractive and unusual silver thumb. 2.3 x 1.8 x 1.2 cm
This is really quite an amazing specimen. It is composed of many, many cubic Silver crystals throughout the specimen. CUBIC crystals are rare, especially for Michigan. Note also a few other habits mixed in (dodec?). They all have a deep burnished color and fine natural patina with luster. Such good crystallization is rare, making this quite the extraordinary thumbnail. 2.4 x 2.3 x 2 cm
RARE AND OLD LOCALITY...Delicate and beautifully woven Silver wires highlight this excellent locality thumbnail specimen. With such good luster and patina, the aesthetics of this piece are first-rate. 2.2 x 1.2 x 1 cm
The pics tell you all you need to know about how cool this Silver is. Its not the largest thubmnail, but it DOES stand out in a case, no doubt. From my old mentors Neal and Chris Pfaff to Marilyn in the 1980s. Ex Ron Sohn collection. 1.4 x 1 x .9 cm
This Photo was Mindat.org Photo of the Day - 11th Mar 2007
Rich cluster of solid wires around a core of acanthite-covered thicker wires of silver. this one is actually much nicer in person. 2.5 x 2 x 1.1 cm
Four intergrown blades of lustrous dark brown Barite that comprise a very aesthetic cluster. Add in a trace of silver, and this becomes an interesting a far more important thumb from what must surely be an old locality. 2.5 x 1.5 x 1 cm
A rich, old-time, silver ore specimen of platy silver with azurite and malachite in a matrix of mostly quartz from Hot Creek, Elko Co., Nevada. This antique piece comes with two old labels, one of which, is glued to the specimen. Ex Richard Hauck Collection. From the famous silver rush era of the 1800s! 8.3 x 6.0 x 2.4 cm
An AESTHETIC and BEAUTIFUL, little, 6 mm cluster of silver wires set in a vug with quartz needles and smaller silver wires in silver ore matrix from a Very Uncommon and OLD Mexican silver producing area, Mineral del Monte in Hidalgo. This old-timer comes with three old labels, one of which, is glued to the piece and gives the mine name. Ex Richard Hauck Collection. 7.0 x 5.4 x 4.8 cm
An EXTREMELY RICH, old-time and sculptural silver-copper "halfbreed" from the famous Keweenaw Peninsula of Michigan. Most halfbreeds are less much less than 50% silver, but this hefty piece is at least 75% silver and weighs 52 grams. This fine piece was formally in the collection of George Robinson, currently curator of the Seamann Mineral Museum at Michigan Tech. 3.7 x 2.7 x 1.8 cm
A "seahorse" of native silver from a Mexican mine that is very hard to get specimens from these days - completely crystallized with wonderful form. Small thumber. 1.8 x 1.4 x 0.4cm
Can you possibly imagine a more aesthetic and choice silver from kongsberg of ANY size, let alone a competetion quality thumbnail?! this piece is ridiculously good - it has crystal of large size, classic wires, matrix. AND pedigree.... 2.7 x 1.1 x 1 cm
2.6 x 2.1 x 0.7 cm. An exquisite thumbnail nest of curved and curled silver wires with a nice patina and embedded in just a bit of matrix. This fine specimen is from the historic silver mines at Kongsberg, Norway and is from the Irv Brown Collection. Definitely old material.
This is another fine wire or "rope" silver from the world’s premier silver district. The specimen is a .5 cm thick, twisted wire which flares into smaller wires at the top. Superb and extremely aesthetic! 3 x 1.5 x 1.2 cm
A rich specimen of intricately "woven" wire silver on matrix, from the famous Batopilas silver locality. These fine wires are all over the matrix! 5.0 x 3.6 x 2.3cm
11.0 x 9.6 x 4.8 cm. From an old stash of these East German classics, put together during the days when the Soviets mined the place, this is an unusually large and fine silver specimen. The Pohla silvers are known for their extremely photogenic herringbone-like crystallization, which you see here in all its intricate beauty. The silver is embedded in and flowering out from massive matrix of silver and arsenic ore. This piece has a huge display face, just covered with good quality silver of a style that made this one of the more famous silver localities for collectors for many years. Today, they are hard to obtain. Complete coverage is present on both sides, by the way, although the front is crystallized more nicely.
